  1. Quick Questions - Does the DFRS require files to have the system set to have permissions in order for it to replicate? I have a DFS system between two servers (in two countries) but the backlog never gets below 3000 transactions and I'm thinking this could be an issue. Any ideas?
  2. And they also tend to just generally fail - and there PDU's set fire to themselves!
  3. Borri UPS's are wicked. I wouldn't touch APC with a barge pole, too many failures for my liking.
  4. Well my Xbox was broken, tbh I don't play games that much (pretty much just GTA and Call of Duty), the main reason I bought the console too was for the blueray player.
  5. I've just got my hands on mine, arrived yesterday in the office. PS3 500GB slim GTA 5 Bundle - plus they just emailed me with a free code to get the Last of us for Free which is a promo they have on at the moment. so all in all I have done pretty well for my £200
  6. Decent and APC should not be used in the same sentence!! IMHO - depends on if its cost effective, if its going to cost £80 for new batteries and £100 for new one, then go new. If its £10 for batteries and £100 new then go batteries. A UPS shouldn't die after you have replaced the batteries!
  7. 5K sounds about right for a migration (not a new domain but migration from 2003 to 2008R2 or 2012 as a minimum). But to be honest depending on the spec of the box that could be 90% of the money. EDIT: as well as what the school have asked for, you will also have to check what the company have put in the quote/spec. It may well be a sales guy has turned up said you want a new server, how much you want to spend? 5K ok here you go this is what we will do A B C (although they actually want X Y Z etc). So technically the company could have done what it quoted to do, but the school doesn't actually want what they have quoted on - which actually leaves the blame at the school/person who signed it off.
  8. Yup - Implemented this lots of times, fairly straight forward. Toby
  9. Sounds like an Auto negotiation issue with either the servers to the switch or inter switch and the traffic is being reduced by this
  10. Well in that case its find any quotes provided and see what is specced out.
  11. They also do or could do hosted filtering if required.
  12. as others have said it comes down to what the school actually were told was going to happen. Nothing wrong with using legacy servers in the virtual world. I mean I have a client still using a SCO unix 5.0 system which was installed circa 1995/6. I have seeb very large orgs still using Windows 3.0 machines. Whether as you state it was the best idea to just virtualise vs rebuild. It probably sounds better to rebuild but 1 days install to virtualise a Server vs 3/4 days to migrate correctly could of been a few k depending on the installers.
  13. Do these switches have any sort of basic intrusion detection? Are 4500 comware?
  14. I left that job!
  15. Essentially was a CSV export from Sims imported into a Mysql db and then a PHP page which queried the DB for todays date and displayed the relevant names. I havn't got the code any more but it was a simple 3 line php file
  16. There shouldn't be a reason, apart from they don't want to do it. It is outbound traffic only nothing inbound.
  17. Well I just may have accidentally purchased myself a shiney PS3 GTA 5 Bundle!! My Xbox broke a year or so ago and I had resisted from replacing but the temptation was too much. It will be here tomorrow but i have got it delivered to the Office and I am 140 miles away in Ipswich on Training
  18. just don't install VMtools on the image as that will cause an issue, you may however see your base image not perform that well without them.
  19. I'm sure if enough people make the wish in the bottom right corner they may well think about it!
  20. Yes it does - and I am 99% sure its that your LEA need to allow the ports outbound. Pretty much everybody who tries to use this in schools has the same issue. IOS7 support is on its way shortly too.
  21. IP EXPO - 16 - 17 October 2013 - Earls Court 2 - London - The ONE place where technology works together Its very similar to Bett but obviously not aimed purely at edu
  22. It would be good to get an Edugeek group meet up arranged for the afternoon or Similar. Are you going to see anything specific?
  23. Yup - that is the concern but in terms of environmental damage the fuel was the biggest concern. But yes the other stuff is obviously going to cause an issue. From my understanding though they are trying to keep as much water inside the ship as possible and take it to dry docks to empty/decontaminate as much as possible?
  24. i have it working correctly - and it does work very well - that link you have posted is from your Portal so we are unable to see if however the correct outbound ports are.
  25. Yup - it hasn't got any fuel left in it (or very little compared to what was in it) as the tanks were emptied about a month after the accident.
