Fixed my problem. Re-installed SQL Native Client and all is well now. Don't know why it fell over in the first place though. I didn't even think about that whilst I was looking for solutions the other day but a fresh look at it this morning got me thinking that it may be a side issue and not a problem directly related to the SIMS update. Not wishing to be rude and hijack the thread too much but.... ... the May update has broken FMS (SQL 2005) on our workstations. I did the upgrade this morning and now workstations error when trying to do anything. they can log in but as soon as you try to do anything they bork out. Database held on the server, FMS works on the server but not on the workstations. Everything else OK. Can't find a solution on Supportnet and wanted it working before the inevitable outcry on Monday morning. HBJB

I can't find that particular setting (I could have sworn that I saw a 'force safe search' tick box once but I can't see it now). Could you elaborate please? HBJB

Also watching with interest. It seems that this is a popular thing at the moment. We are looking for IP phones that will work with our wireless system as well as being patched into our cabinets. HBJB

When I bought my house there was already a pile of letters on the mat addressed to a previous occupant who had rented it. We got all sorts of bailiff letters and I just sent them back with "No longer at this address - please amend your records". on them. The same person still uses our address to get loans and credit cards - even after 10 years - and I still get their mail. It's never affected my credit rating though. HBJB

Have you tried flushing the dns on these machines? (ipconfig /flushdns after releasing the ip address.) HBJB

Our Head is already dead against it and has assured us that we're safe (not in writing though). I'm sure though that if it came to a choice of keeping us and rejecting the managed service or loosing the BSF re-build/refurbishment we'd be out the door as fast as we could be pushed. I had heard that if a school wanted the benefit of a re-build/refurbishment then they have to take the managed service. Has anyone seen anything official about this? No matter how hard I google I can find nothing much to say about the ins and outs of BSF - only how 'good' it'll be for everyone. The Partnership for Schools website is full of dead links and our LA has nothing about it on their website at all despite wave 6 having already started. How does BSF apply to school that are not so tied in with the LA (Trust schools, foundation schools etc)? HBJB

I just found out that although we are not in wave 6 (some of our schools in the LA are and some are not), the mangled service will still apply to ALL schools in the LA - not just those in wave 6. *sigh* HBJB

We had a company that relentlessly spammed us with calls about cleaning keyboards and mice etc. To shut them up we got them in to do a free test clean. they then gave us a price based on the number of machines we had. Turned out they wanted £5.50 per PC. You could hear the laughter all the way down the corridor. It's cheaper to replace the keyboard and mouse than to clean them. HBJB

Agreed, get the controller and a few APs while they're willing to put money into it - it may not be available when you need it in the future. HBJB

15 what? So does that mean if we choose to add a few more / upgrade them to a different standard at any time we can use the Neagear staff? They 'forgot' to tell us that and I didn't see it mentioned anywhere. D'oh. Still I've got a nice shiney new POE switch to hang some security cameras off of now. HBJB

31 APs, 4 POE 48 port switches (subsequently found out that the controller is also POE ), 48 port controller, new cabling to all APs, installed & tested C £40K. (Could have saved £2.5K if we'd been told that the controller was POE) Supplied by Red-M Works fine. 100% uptime so far (only been a week or so though) and clients have no problems connecting - even 15 or so on a single AP if the logins are staggered sensibly. Nor me. But what about our .org domain that has some pretty funky DNS going on - free too if we can prove we're a school? Can only ask. HBJB (on the dns thing, we have a .org doman hosted by a third party, who's A record is forwarded to another company who do our website, we have a few sub domains that that we deal with ourselves (host and ssl) and OWA on a sub domain of our .org that forwards to our internal Exchange server that is actualy on a .sch domain (also with an external IP address). Still with me? I need a certificate that will stop the 'This site is not trusted' messages but can't get my head around what I actual need to put in the certificate setup page. Any help welcome).

We have some of the same laptops and had the same SATA issue when taking off Vista and putting on XP. If you download the HP drivers (the ones that install to a floppy) you can get the XP installer to recognise the drive by selecting the 4th from bottom driver (I think) - we did it by trial and error - we just went down the list one by one until one worked. It goes without saying that you need a USB floppy drive to do this. HBJB

... got one of these built into our Aruba controller. It's great at picking up 'rouge' wifi units and can even go so far as to try to disable them! Bwahahaaa HBJB

Wow, it's funny you should say that because I've been struggling to find out why ours picks on random tapes to write to. I've set it up as 'automatic', 'sequential' and to 'loop' the tapes but the last jobs went to tape 5 then 8 and the latest one is on 7. It makes no sense to me and I can't figure out why it's not going from 1 to 2 to 3 etc. HBJB

Problem is fixed now. I ordered a new cable, fitted it, did a fresh inventory of my tapes (I had stuck bar-code labels on them and wanted them to be picked up) and it worked. Thanks to all those who offered advice. HBJB

Hmmm. We had a similar problem with a site that would not allow users to stay logged in for more than one or two clicks without logging them out again. This site did not work under IE but did under Firefox. We trawled through our policies and found that when using Group Policy Modeling we had one policy that had nothing in the Details section. We deleted it and recreated it and it's worked ever since. I know of a few schools in Dorset that use their own email system. You still use the SWGfL to connect to the internet but you can use your own mail server. You'll need RM to allow SMTP through and setup the relevant DNS but it's fairly straight forward to do (if a little time consuming waiting for them do do the button clicking ). HBJB
