Samlearning.com So Slowwww (Please Test)

Interesting. They don't redirect for me but they do look very similar (same content, different logos). This could explain a lot. HBJB -

SIMS has started to do some weird things since term started this year when running reports. We are using XP and Office 2003. SIMS is (was) at June 2009 (now updated to August). When running a report (any report) that uses Excel, it pops up the excel 'enable macros' box and then Excel disappears and does nothing at all sometimes for a hour or so before the report Finlay comes up. Of course, by this time the user has tried to run it several times and so their PC complains. Excel is running in the background all the time according to Task Manager. This is happing on all machines and still does it after the August update has been applied and the server (and workstation) rebooted. Nothing has changed over the holidays to the server or the workstations and it was functioning correctly before. Naturally I can't get down the corridor without being 'moaned' at about this but Capita seem to have no other reports of this happening so I though I'd ask the people who use it as well if anyone else is having this problem. Cheers HBJB

Samlearning.com So Slowwww (Please Test)

Dead slow here too. Also the teacher account seems to have had the password changed mysteriously since the 'upgrade' and and as admin I cannot seem to change it back. It says I can but does not let me see the account to change it Gaaaahhh!! On the plus side you can bulk upload uses into it now. HBJB -
Is it a single mailbox or many? Singles can be done in the Management Console. Go to Recipient Configuration / Right click the required mail box / properties / mailbox settings / storage quotas / untick 'use mailbox database defaults / set new limits. HBJB

I like the new size: On the other hand ... it "only allows for up to 2,048 characters in a single query". Which is this much (including spaces): The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. Yep, it happened to me too. Similar circumstances. Not got to the bottom of it yet but our lot seem to be able to work on the files fine (so far). HBJB

Yep - or use reservations. HBJB

LogMeIn in no longer works for you? Which LEA? It's fine in the SWGfL do long as you can alter the filtering settings (fingers crossed tfor it staying that way). HBJB

Free 1GB Memory Sticks for Teachers & School Staff
Heebeejeebee replied to jamin100's topic in General Chat
Nor me - but I don't know what I'd do with it even if it did ever turn up. 1GB - pah! I carry around a 64GB, and two 32GB drives around at all times. HBJB -
So he staged all of the death scenes, whitnesses, phone calls to 911 etc. He's truly the king of props HBJB

Does anyone print their own ID cards?
Heebeejeebee replied to Heebeejeebee's topic in How do you do....it?
Well, we went ahead and bought the printer (forget the exact model but it prints the hologram overlay), 300 cards with the hologram in the corner, 200 lanyards and holders, the software, a couple of spare ribbons and it cost in the region of £1,700. I haven't used it in anger yet so can't comment on its suitability yet. HBJB -
Will do (maybe a while though - busy) HBJB

Ours is up for renewal soon - what do you need from us to give us a quote? HBJB

Shouldn't be too bad if multicasting. We're testing it here and managed 60 PCs in 15 mins or so and that's including re-imaging them, letting sysprep do its thing and getting them added to the domain. Admittedly they were all the same type of machine so the image was just one being mulicast. So far I love it. Now if only those pesky SIS 900 POS NICs would PXE boot HBJB

If you're re-applying permissions because they've been lost somehow (a move to another machine without copying permissions perhaps), you will want to use the /t switch so that it does the change to all subfolders and files. HBJB

You could use something along the lines of Axcrypt. I believe there's a portable version as well. If you're really paranoid use a password on the file, zip it with a password and then use an encryption proggy like Axcrypt or Trucrypt. Different passwords of course - extra layers of protection. HBJB

I'd better get my avitar updated then HBJB

French/MFL site - Linguascope.com
Heebeejeebee replied to Little-Miss's topic in Educational Software
We use it too. Our MFL teachers love it. I think it uses popups in some parts so you might want to check your browser settings for the site. HBJB -
err, to take the register! Those of us who use electronic registration need to get the class registered and to do that you need access to SIMS (or your prefered MIS). Paper registers going to the office are frowned upon here and should only be used as a last resort. All our supply tend to be regulars or ex-staff and know the system, if not they're given training on how to do it. As mentioned the supply version of SIMS is locked down. HBJB
-
We have 3 supply supervisors here and they have their own accounts with teacher rights but we also have a generic 'visitor' account which is (only slightly) locked down. They have to do similar things to 'real' teachers so we need to give them similar rights including SIMS (which is more locked down than the usual teacher accounts). HBJB

More like Microsoft with every passing minute
Heebeejeebee replied to cookie_monster's topic in General Chat
They're all evil and we're all evil for using them. end HBJB -
We have students with their own home folders (obviously) but we also give them a 'submissions' drive. They can do pretty much what they like within this but teachers can only read. The teacher's drive is mapped one level up so they will see a folder structure like 04, 05, 06 etc (year of intake) and can then drill down to the student they want to mark work for, send for moderating etc. Permissions are set by xcalc HBJB

So you've got the quote of the day app as well then. HBJB

I'm pricing up a new SIMS server now as well. Where are you guys going for quotes? HBJB
