I did a couple of laptop cabinets recently (one snapped key, one lost keys!) Only cost a few quid - the locks are usually interchangeable as you've seen. The manufacturer of the cabinet wouldn't be any help - they'd just buy the locks wholesale.

Mosyle Manager - Restrict Safari and Chrome

The iPad is built Supervised with AC2 using a Mac. This involves a wipe of the OS - at least it has in my experience - then it's rebuilt in Supervised Mode. There's only so much you can do without that. -
Is it a standard lock barrel with a star drive on the back, to bolt on the cam for the locks, or something more esoteric? If it's standard, just replace it.

2 days possibly a bit keen. Two weeks is more like it. One 2 days have passed, yes it will build a new profile based off the Default. Can be slower, but shouldn’t be much if you have things set up well.

cable from building to unmanaged switch managed switch

My Ciscos will not talk to stuff below 100mb. I saw similar problems when I upgraded our setup. You may also have spanning tree disabling the port (I have to disable it on any port that has a switch downstream). -
What's the oldest bit of kit you still have running?

Last week I was handed one of those little Promethean tablets that came with the boards, complete with pen. Connect via PS/2 or round DIN serial. Still in its box with instructions. Not seen one for years. Must be 20 years old at least, if not a touch more (DIN serial connectors disappeared off PCs, what, 25 years ago?) Bit of a contrast after fitting a Dell Canvas screen in an Art classroom (and that’s not new!) -
Crash was purpose. Glorious Russian rockets impossible to fail. Never fail. Mission was great success. *Russian press releases have taken a reliability downturn in the last few years*

Can you test with a decent switch (100/1000) instead of the Netgear? I wonder if it’s struggling to negotiate with it. Could be cable damage/termination but my first test would be switch. -
I know the feeling, but having done it twice (2013->2016 then 2016 to Online) I found it such a doddle using the ECP. Batches allowed me to manage and test the movement. I would definitely do one to test, then start the bulk.

It doesn't take as long as you'd think. I did mine in batches (each year group etc). Once they'd all moved, I poked DNS about and removed the old server (properly). I didn't leave it running any longer than I had to!

I’m in on iOS now so he’s obviously on it!

USB-C has been a blessing and a curse. Connection is easy enough for even the luddites - but whoever designed the connector did not complete their mechanical engineering degree - they’re as durable as a tissue bikini.

Important distinction. Forget the V5C in this case.

We were pretty much desktop only until 2021. The whole LEA decided to go for teacher laptops (funded). We jumped at it, as they replaced our ancient kit, and went all in - so good docks in every classroom, cases, all labelled up for that staff member, and I set up AoVPN so they could just work at home (but this is easier with Azure!) It has been good on the whole. Some damaged machines inevitably. Some staff awful at leaving their laptop at home then coming to me on the scrounge (“no, go and get it”). LSAs now have them too. I used the opportunity to really shake things up and put a lot of work into making it work for staff, and I feel it has had a positive impact.

Yeah, plenty of life left. I have something like *scratches head* 250(!) left still in commission. I have a fun couple of years left to replace them before Windows 10 support ends. The earliest of them date to 2008 (heavily upgraded). -
Your V5C does not register ownership, only the keeper. The main user of the vehicle, if you like. That can only be one person. Ownership would be indicated by a bill of sale or receipt, which could have both of you on it.

For my last DC on VMWare I just demoted it then gave the IP address to a new DC on Hyper-V. Didn’t try to move it. New name. I did move our SIMS server on 2012 R2 between these platforms - Disk2VHD then converted to a gen 2 server using Powershell. Fairly easy.

Reminds me of the recordings for our auto attendant. No one would voice them, no one would even script them, so I did it. Cue complaints about my pronunciation and it not being bilingual. Now they want it re-done, I’ve said that someone else will have to do it. Thus, it has not been done!

That’s a shame. With what’s been planned here in terms of cards (somehow becoming a massive, massive job instead of the trickle we currently do) I think getting a replacement for our 50-S is probably a good idea anyway.

I haven’t even got close to enough time to do all of my summer work. Especially with Macs to rebuild, no MDM for them, and no real experience with MacOS after 10.13! Thankfully, I’m not overly bothered. My holiday time is well needed this year, lots of projects to do including yet another car, some DIY, possibly extensive sleeping.

Just checked an old Xibo PC that I don't use very often. I knew it was old, but on checking it's powered by a Core 2 Duo e6600! 4GB RAM, a 64GB SSD and HD5450 graphics complete the bleeding edge. 17 year old CPU still (just about) running Windows 10 in an active role...I should probably replace it but the case fits nicely in a network cabinet! -
Glad it was simple. This is one of those stupid things - it should have a short timeout setting because the printer will either be on and connect, or off and not.

Startup script running which is unable to execute properly? Another annoying one is a printer being offline that’s added at startup, seen that add 5 minutes to login before now.

Screen mirroring for visually impaired student
3s-gtech replied to WannabrewUK's topic in How do you do....it?
Yes, this has come up a few times. We did it with Teams and screen sharing - you can then use an iPad, Chromebook etc for the student.
