  1. This always makes me laugh - “ooh I don’t have to wear a tie! What a treat!” Meanwhile some staff are wearing what is basically Mediterranean beachwear. But at least we don’t have to wear a tie! Still wearing a tie.
  2. The build of these portable tyre inflators is always very basic. Not seen one that seems much cop. However, the Ryobi ONE+ should be a better thing altogether from what I’ve seen.
  3. Yup just put two groups through the exam today. I had two bug out - one said that the exam had to be manually uploaded? The other just went to a plain white page after entering the keycode. Neither could be made to work after that. We issued paper exams to both.
  4. New tyres on it? Sometimes they don’t set the pressures correctly after popping new tyres on. More likely, they just wazzed them up too high so it could sit for a while without flat-spotting. 40psi is too high - but not crazy (check out some videos of garaging finding 100psi+ in customers’ cars) - get them to match whatever the guide in the driver’s door shut specs.
  5. BT Cellnet became O2 and Hutchison were involved with Orange so yes. Same players, new game.
  6. I installed it on my work PC (as admin, naturally). Any old dog to get the files into a template folder!
  7. AFAIK - file shares, no. Viewsonic touch software - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/vcastsender/gkjmdfbjkkodgpmkahekmcammibhimdi

    Mac on Domain

I *think* you'll need to either script that or use an MDM to do it. Mac OS will connect the user's home area automatically using the AD settings but it won't mount a share or 'map' it. Generally that's enough - if that's not connecting properly there's something else wrong which we can try to find.
  9. When you mention that Edge slows it, I'd straight away be looking at storage and also RAM allocation and sharing. Those servers would need fast SSDs for 40 clients and enough RAM to meet the needs of each client using 1GB+ just for the browser.
  10. All of ours are now on 750VA Smart UPSs - the batteries they shipped with lasted no time but at least they still do mains cleaning. Never bothered with our older HP then Cisco switches but these Arubas cost more than I earn in 10 years so best that they're protected. Our lovely 5406zl2 soldiers on in another role. Bought that due to recommendations on here - what a piece of kit it is.
  11. We are exclusively on the 6300 series, since 2020. When we got them, it's fair to say they were in a beta state. Failure rate has been spectacular (apparently - we've only lost two or three out of fifty odd). As the firmware has improved the reliability has improved - old firmware had issues like continuous writes to the storage which would wear out the flash memory, or poor port failure management, or boot loops. I never used older CLIs on switches to know, but AOS-CX seems okay. I have a crib sheet for the jobs I need to do. Only thing I do in the web UI is the firmware updates and restarts, though I have used it to check port status etc which is handy. They're good switches now, after running in. Our network is pretty quick throughout with 10Gb (or 50Gb if close enough to the core) uplinks and 5Gb to desktop where applicable (our APs are 2.5Gb).
  12. If you disable the MSSQL services in the Computer Management interface that keeps SIMS down and out of the way. That’s how ours still is, after we migrated to SIMS Connected, and that server is still being used as a third party services host.
  13. Colour accuracy, good screen size (24”+) and QHD+ resolution would be my aims. Look at monitor reviews for the out-of-the box accuracy and 100% for Adobe RGB colour space.
  14. Just bear this in mind if deploying 2019 now: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/deployoffice/endofsupport/microsoft-365-services-connectivity
  15. Works out at 5 years. I’m having decent success rolling out 2021 with a startup script on 22H2. It is working on 20H2 as well but that’s EOL so will update them both. Thankfully I’ve done a couple of suites already.
  16. Excellent news. I wouldn’t trust it at all either, and you can use this incident to move things forward (onto a supported Exchange version/Online!) If you do keep onsite Exchange in any form, set up Windows Server Backup on the box. It’s Exchange aware and can do much better DB backups. You can run it alongside Veeam.
  17. I *think* so. Exchange relies on its log files but if you clean unmount the DB, move it across then mount it you should be in better standing. Not sure if you can do any of that in the EAC.
  18. Do you have the Queue Viewer MMC? That should show you - I’m not sure if that’ll work with a broken MBD but worth a look.
  19. Yes, don’t fear migrating them to a new DB on a new box. That’s a great system and works well.
  20. I wouldn’t use a PC without some of the redundancies that come with a server. You could get a little 1U rackmount that does everything you need for not a lot of money - I’ve bought a few recently as dedicated Smoothwall, MDT and firewall hosts. Cheap and effective. Refurbs, cheaper than a NUC even. Win.
  21. Regex detecting .zip without any following characters may work, to allow.
  22. I haven’t used 2010 to be able to guide you further, but I have followed MS guides to do this. It’s Powershell driven. You basically dismount the current DB and mount the one from the backup, but there may be other steps in your environment. It was the stress of this potentially happening again that guided me to finally moving all mailboxes to Exchange Online. My local DB is minimal now.
  23. Is your Veeam backup Exchange aware? Or is the backup a simple snapshot of the VM? If it’s the latter, I think you’ll need to restore it to a different VM, check the database integrity, dismount it then transfer it across, reversing the process on your Exchange VM. This is a nervy process! Snapshot and be careful as you go. Whatever caused the IO error may be affecting your host.
  24. Notes: Your server share 'SecureClient' folder should contain the Surpass folder and its contents. If you're using this for more than one exam board, you can install it separately into other folders under 'Surpass' and change the install paths to reflect them. The example group shown is Students (you may wish to use Authenticated Users but don't use Everyone) Modify permission to the install directory. I have tested this with a proper SecureAssess test account and it has uploaded. This was using a regular student AD account - local profile on Windows 10.
