  1. There are Powershell scripts that you can run that will remove certain apps for all users. That’s the only way I know of doing it post-image - it’s a good system though and you can push it via GP.
  2. administartor Best reason to not use that account? Screw security - it’s because it’s a **** to type. Still hear people calling SQL ‘sequel’. I get it, I guess, but…it make you sound very, very old!
  3. *quietly rolls back up a political banner and some off-topic posts*
  4. Flashbacks of Netgear 10/100 hubs (not even switches) banged in to share ports *shudder* We had a large chunk of our infrastructure managed by hubs when I started. They got junked ASAP. What you’ve done is ideal though. On some Cisco devices, they basically had those built in - you could use either SFP or RJ45 for two ports. Very handy.
  5. If the disk in the caddy is big enough, yes. The issue will be getting to the data - you may need to cobble up the old NAS to get it running long enough to pull the data off. Moving the drives may (*may*) end up destroying the data.
  6. It was more the mental image that, as your message cut off abruptly, that you were asking how to do so while approaching a corner on said motorbike with potentially disastrous results 🫣
  7. Are you sure that’s a good idea?
  8. Not mine, but dad had, amongst numerous others as we liked to buy interesting old bangers, a Fiat Croma i.e. turbo. One of my favourite out of the lot. Didn’t stick around long but handsome, fast and interesting!
  9. Again - this may be where a reservation helps you. No need to apply static settings other than the proxy, the client stays on auto whichever network they're on. However, DNS etc should not be global and should be unique to the profile. You should be able to test this if you hotspot it.
  10. School one has been boxed for too long! Must get it out.
  11. Ahem *Toyota* cough splutter Ford have sounded the Fiesta’s death knell, while the GR Yaris is a modern classic. You could count Fiat/Abarth, though the 500 is long in the tooth!
  12. I’ve had success with getting Lenovo laptops warranty repaired when the port has died - new mainboard. It really should be a daughterboard! They’re not resilient enough by far.
  13. Not sure whether it was us that you saw, but we certainly did that with Wordpress. It worked well. We then moved to a self made blog which integrated into the school app, our intranet homepage, parents site and behaviour tracking. That’s now stopped being used - no idea what they use now - possibly Class Charts? Feels like we’ve taken a step back, but since Covid homework is pushed far less.

    PC Refresh

Just built a suite with 60 Lenovo ThinkCentre Neo N50s. Really like them - they built easily (just had to update the graphics driver in MDT), they’re compact and quiet. Ours are 12th gen i3 but I’d suggest i5s with 16GB, or the AMD Ryzen equivalent. We got them through Welsh Government pricing framework so they were good value, but there are deals about.
  15. It’ll be company dependant. I’ve had some really good support experiences over the last couple of years. I don’t use a huge number of providers though.
  16. I haven’t used Moodle for a while as an admin, but effectively I was always responsible for any updates, and that meant database backups before updating (which I did, as it could break spectacularly). If the college hosts Moodle themselves, they are responsible for it. If it’s hosted by a provider, the college will still have a responsibility to ensure it’s being backed up, but the update may have been scripted to happen. So - no, not good enough, and they need to at least try to recover it (which is hard, IIRC). Lesson to learn - never submit the only copy of any work!
  17. I'd say it's okay as long as you're allowed to delete all of the macros: https://coolermaster.egnyte.com/dl/JtVIPD3ebg
  18. The drivers will be in Windows Update - I have some 450 G3s and that’s where they are. I should add - try to wean off 32 bit ASAP. For context, I never deployed a 32 bit version of Windows 7 or later - it was too limiting.
  19. Best to stick to an Enterprise class drive - don't stick a desktop HDD in there. It'll work, but sometimes they don't last as long, and if you happen to buy an SMR drive it'll be slow and won't last as long! The price difference is usually not enough to matter. You can put in a 2TB instead of course - but if you buy a 1TB and it's actually 1MB smaller than the others, it probably won't build!
  20. if (isInNet(host, "10.*", "255.240.0.0")) {return "DIRECT";} else { return "PROXY 192.168.1.1:8080"; } Change the subnet mask to suit. You’ll need to nest this as appropriate.
  21. Any different with/without battery, or different PSU? Laptops are far more tolerant of poor power quality but not necessarily in DC.
  22. Eeeeeeep that's a new one. Not yet heard of that coming up. Erm. Use CS6?
  23. Should be very straightforward. The variables are the location of the hot and cold feeds, and how much of a tail is on the power cable. The wire rating will need to be checked, though as it's a power shower it won't need anything like as much current as an electric shower. It's fitted with something akin to Speedfit so it'll pop off the copper tails. When fitting new, just make sure the copper ends are clean and corrosion free and they should seal.
  24. Plenty of 20 year old machines will boot from USB. Use Rufus to make a bootable USB from the image of your distro of choice. I haven’t made a bootable Linux CD for years, so not sure what I’d use to even do that!
  25. Our head uses it - allows him to quickly hop onto and off our proxy settings. It's a great feature.
