I'm no expert in this area but have been given the following advice - The ‘Compare Marks by Column Report’ would be perfect for what you are trying to achieve.

Have you tried using the home page widgets that display live information? You can chose which groups to look at - house, tutor, year, whole school.

This is straight forwards. Please raise a case with your support unit.

It is possible to create any number of reports for mail merging with different body text and indeed most fields are available. Select the fields you want to use then select mail merge output.

I've not come across SchoolBase in the state sector - can it do a census return?

I think you are asking for a change in the way SOLUS3 behaves. As we have been forced to re-issue, the logic warns that you are about to deploy an out of date copy of SIMS but it will allow you to say yes go ahead. What you want is no warning for a school that has already started rolling out the old version? It would be helpful if you could discuss with Jon Wood the Product Manager. (Secondary schools will almost certainly require V2 hence we have stopped releasing V1 but you can request it.)

The problem with this approach is that registers should be taken at the start of the lesson so the missing pupils are found. As a general rule in computing NEVER combine two pieces of data in a single field! More importantly by not using the behaviour features the school will not be able to use the full analysis that makes a difference. Yes everyone does have a product now but my point stands. I've nothing to gain from my statement which is don't limit yourself to what's on that framework.

@matt40k - PX might be able to handle this but it would be a kludge. This is really a single school, shared teachers, resources and timetable.

Actually I wanted to ask - why do you want a single database if all the schools are separate?

It was on the framework when sold by Serco. No allowance was made for Serco selling Facility/Progresso and Advanced Learning, the new owner is not on the list. That shouldn't really worry you as you could get on the framework without a product!!

@localzuk it was an expectation promoted by Becta never put into any regulation. I'm not suggesting it was a bad idea, far from it!

It was NEVER a requirement to have on-line reporting however Ofsted will look at home/school links as evidence that parental engagement is occurring. Having some form of dedicated web site where parents can see homework, behaviour & achievement has got to be a plus point. Another consideration is that Ofsted will use its own web site to record parental comments on your school and I suspect that this will largely attract negative observations!! A web site controlled by the school that allows parent surveys could be used to counteract anything expressed on the Ofsted site.
