  1. Hi guys - the census reports that are required for free schools, whilst not quite as bad as Academies, can be a nightmare and require a huge amount of manual work (weeks and weeks) if your MIS cannot extract the data and pop it into the exact spreadsheets that the DfE are expecting.. even for 72 pupils and they have a tendancy to change the validation and requirements of these spreadsheets with very little notice. The returns are 4 times a year.
  2. Just to update that this is looking like a network issue as we are getting inconsistent and worrying ping responses between the server and the client! we are hoping that a small reroute of the network will solve the problem. Thanks for the input so far.
  3. Thank you DaveCoop and Mac_shinobi - I will try all your ideas!
  4. Thasnk GeekyPete, that's useful. I shall give it a go!
  5. Thanks Michael - I will give it a go!
  6. Hiya Matt - the software is ok on the network as its been there for over 10 years and fine in hundreds of other schools, its literally these 2 new machines that have caused the problems - I am wondering if the RM setup on them is correctly done but thats well outside my knowledge. It is all a bit freaky!
  7. Hey everyone, it was great to meet so many of you at BETT I have a difficult problem, a customer has 3 computers, all brand new but bought in 2 batches a week apart. In their accounts program there is a function that prints to screen and then saves to the database. 1 computer saves everything in the database and the other 2 will not, just saving the first page. They are all windows 7, 64 bit machines. Printer drivers and BDE versions are identical. I really want to help this school but have ran out of ideas. It is definitely the computer and not the user as I have checked all combinations. The system uses a dbase database with index files. If the index files are deleted then the routine will work on all the computers, but only once. This only happens at this one school and it has an RM network. I am wondering if it is some kind of permissions issue against the computer rather than user - it must be a configuration setting somewhere. I am not sure I have put this in the correct forum and I also doubt anyone can help but thought it worth a try! Paul.
  8. Thanks John that's useful - I'll check. They may have got mistaken!! Paul
  9. I have filled this in from the point of view of someone that has worked closely with many schools over many years very interested in the results.
  10. Its the school's old management information system, I'm not sure it would be right to name it in the forum but if you think you can help I can PM you
  11. Hi everyone I have a school database that I need to get into that is locked with a username and password? Its an Omnis database and the school that provided it have no idea what the access is. Do you know if there is a default set of credentials? I have googled and nothing! The school are asking me to migrate the data for them to a new system and we are a bit stuck! Thanks in advance Paul
