Hi everyone, if a school had students in during a training day (music lessons, revision classes, isolation) would we be able to mark them present? If so, how?!

Hello, I'm looking for some advice if anyone can help? We currently use Parent Pay to send absence texts home to our students who are have N's (no reason provided for absence) and it is not very user friendly. It's clunky, snaggy and often needs a lot of patches to sync data from SIMS. My line manager has asked me to look into other options, I was thinking perhaps SIMS InTouch or Keep Kids Safe, but I haven't had any experience or these. As the person responsible for attendance improvement I need to know that whatever we use is fit for purpose and ideally I'd like parents to have to option to text back to provide a reason for absence as with a high proportion of pupil premium students our parents often say they don't have credit to call the school but do get free texts. So, has anyone used InTouch or KKS? Is there a massive cost difference? Is there another program that might also be useful? We have 985 students on roll if that helps, and we will also want to send texts about homework, detentions, etc. Thanks in advance

We have this issue too, I agree with bobsmith that the only way to tackle it is to chase up on the day. I will go to a class to remind the teacher (they don't like the interuption) and i will send a reminded on SIMS and also print the list of missing registers, paste it into an email and email everyone with an outstanding register. I am then supposed to forward missing registers to SLT if they still aren't done but it usually doesn't get that far. I send the reminders out 10 mins after the start of the lesson.

Hi Everyone, sorry if this has been asked before, but... On SIMS, the "School Report" is really useful, gives me all of the information that I need to report on regarding attendance. Attendance of SEN, PP. boys, girls etc. Only issue is that it is defaulted to include Year 12 & 13, which I don't need, so I end up calculating a lot of data manually which is a bit of a pain. Does anyone know how to exclude the Sixth Form? I've tried excluding their dates of birth in the Attendance settings but this didn't work. Any suggestions would be gratefully received!

Thanks. So if a P16 student has completed work for a set lesson but has gone home to study for another lesson, could a B code be used? Can the definition of the B code be stretched for P16 ?

[sims] Report displaying alternative attendance code characters?
AIOMG replied to Piracee's topic in MIS Systems
Hi. I know this might be a bit late, BUT, Reports -> Lesson Monitor -> selected students -> students with a chosen code. From there you can select dates, selct codes like Q, A and K and it gives you the option to search by lesson. -
Hi all, wondering if you can help. We are currently looking at a more rigorous way of recording P16 attendance but the codes don't seem to fit. For instance, recording independent study time, if they're not on site we can't mark them present, but could we use a B? it loosly falls into educated offsite but is it too much of a stretch? What about just putting an X in for the session? Does anyone have any ideas? Its my own fault, I've sorted yr 7-11 now they'remaking me look at P16!

[sims] Is there a way of finding out when a Register was taken?

Hi, has anyone had any luck with this? I feel like I'm constantly chasing staff members who have not marked registers to find that they mark them when my back is turned and then claim they were there all along! - - - Updated - - - Hi, has anyone had any luck with this? Hello, I need some help! Is there any way to roll the dates back on a Discover group? I created it in March, but I need to use it to gather info on attendance week by week from Sept. Any ideas?

I think I'm going to have to give this a try. We're also having trouble with sixth form -
It's not working, but I might be able to get the data using star field analysis

[sims] SIMS help, changing an N to a U for late comers.

If they arrive after 8.45 they sign in and this is manually updated onto the system as a L or a U, depending how late they were. I think the problem is that they are coming in at break or after first lesson and not signing in at all so they are just showing up from lesson 2 or 3, and getting no morning mark. -
We can do user defined groups, yes, but that means manually putting a couple of hundred kids into a group. Was wondering if we could use Discover to help as that alresy sorts them. Only problem is you can't seem to adjust the group dates

I'm having trouble with this too. HM_Castle, you need to make sure the group in discover is "dynamic" or it won't show up in regular SIMS. Also, I have created discover groups with PP / SEN etc, but they are only active from when I set the group up, if I want to measure the attendance of the students in these groups weekly from the beginning of the year how do I do it? It will only let me measure from the datethe group was created. Is there a way to override this?
