For those of you who use Mosyle as your MDM - is there any way to stop students from being able to change WiFi settings such as Auto Join, Data saving mode & setting manual DNS? I have it locked down fairly well & most things they are not able to change. There seems to be a student who has twigged on & is setting the DNS server to 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 on a couple of the shared iPads.. This in effect does nothing and prevents internet access, as the iPad use a captive portal via Sophos XG - but causes issues for the next person who picks the iPad up & I end up being called over to set the DNS back to automatic.. just a PITA! I've scanned through the restrictions & I can't see anything else that I can toggle/turn on to prevent this

Is it the 1.0 ecoboost? Could be a turbo issue, could be spark plugs, could be coil pack Best bet is to get it diagnosed at a garage, or get an OBD to USB cable and have a look yourself - i've used this software before for checking EML codes on fords : FORScan Home

Not sure on the pricing (as SEN paid for this software), but we use Read&Write for our SEN laptops, seems like a good bit of kit from what i've seen Adds a toolbar to the top of the screen, can spellcheck, dictate selected text, do text to speech, screen overlay & much more

I'll have to look into this next week then, it must include some other stuff..

Sorry to steal the thread - On the topic of backups, i'm looking for a new provider for an offsite backup. Currently have 1TB of storage with our current supplier at £150p/m, does this seem expensive?

[ms office - o365] Microsoft Publisher - EOL 2026
Olliedawg replied to thimon's topic in Office Software
I honestly can't remember the last time I used publisher -
Another point for Veeam B&R, We've been using it the past few years & not had any problems so far.

Mosyle free does the job, however it is limited compared to the paid version. Bear in mind you can only manage one type of device with the free version (either iOS or MacOS)

Yea a mix of Yealink T42S / T46S - gigabit passthrough, officially EOL now though

Close to off topic, technically hardware... IT Bag!
Olliedawg replied to Planehazza's topic in Hardware
I have a North Face Backpack.. similar to this https://www.amazon.co.uk/North-Face-Connector-Unisex-Backpack/dp/B08JMBM3PM Had it for a couple years now, still going strong! Has a compartment within the bag which seems to be for a notepad/a couple books.. however my laptop fits nicely in here. Padding on the rear of the backpack too, so a bit of protection there incase its dropped etc.. -
Yea error can be ignored. Been using Delprof2 here for a while now in 3 IT suites, no issues with profiles

As above could move to LTSC, which would be cheapest option by far. In my case, we're buying refurbs for our 3 IT rooms. Looking at about £300 per machine (HP EliteDesk 800 G4). Come with a 3 year warranty which will suffice until the next refresh. For staff desktops/laptops we are doing the same. Buying refurbs with minimum 8th Gen intel processors, 16Gb memory minimum. I can recommend Home | ICT-Direct for buying refurbs. If you have an account with them & spend a certain amount each year, they give you a 5 year warranty instead of 3 on desktops/laptops.

How long until you upgrade to WiFi 6?
Olliedawg replied to TheHyperTechie's topic in Wireless Networks
Still wifi 5 here. UAP-AC-PRO's with the unifi controller installed on a VM. I dont see a need to change this anytime soon. 1 gig uplinks on all of our switches -
You only get a yes/no when you have admin rights, im sure. Thanks for that Dalek will have to try it

Is there a way to see UAC prompts with Quick Assist? I can remember using this a while back before we had Senso & we couldn't see the prompts
-
We use Senso cloud - works well enough for the times i've needed to provide remote support. We don't have any staff who WFH however. If this was the case I would probably invest in something a bit better, as senso remote control has its moments sometimes

Have you checked TriggerhappyUK's suggestion? Worth a look.. however this policy alone for me blocks it entirely, as i had complaints from one teacher saying the student couldn't respond to them in a private chat about classwork

I've had to disable chat in the past also.. currently have 3 students with this policy applied as they cant be trusted with it. Teams admin center > Messaging > Messaging Policies > New Policy I basically disabled everything in this section, besides the report concern option. Is the policy applied to a group, or is it user based? I do mine on an individual basis & haven't had any problems.

I'm not sure..I'm sure there is a way! We just did a fresh start & added a lot of relevant/useful bookmarks via GPO, staff can then add their own of course.

Seconded if you are a MS school. We used to be on chrome a few years back. Switched to Edge & set to auto sign in with MS account etc.. its great, syncs bookmarks automatically etc.. with no input from user

Senso cloud/network cloud here - secondary school with Sophos firewall / STAS We do experience some inconsistencies, however I don't really get complaints from staff regarding Senso & the remote control feature 95% of the time works perfectly fine. I frequently use the remote scripting feature for our IT rooms (~34 computers) & this always catches every single PC without fail. We are due a new firewall next Friday (XG 210 > XGS2300), hoping not to run into issues!

You've done a good job there, looks great!

Sounds about right for Micro$oft

Haha I can see what you mean. It's the old creative arts office. They've moved into a fancy new office so I've ended up here. Before this I was in a shared office with caretaker (albeit was a large office). Nice to have my own space!

Sounds similar to mine! Enough room for my desk, a workbench and 2 filing cabinets. Would have been nice to have a window! Also note the portable heater, as my radiator doesn't work - and hasn't done for the past 2 months
