Allowed for all students in restricted mode, staff have moderate. I have often wondered if its worth having unblocked for students, as im sure most just pi** about on there, although i've never had any concerns raised by any teaching staff. Both have usage monitored using FastVue / Sophos XG

Hm ok - if no users are shown as logged in, that rules out the 2 user limit i suppose. Is the user profile service definitely running on the vm? Can you log in as a local admin on the vm? it's very strange. Hopefully you get to the bottom of it!

Can you run " sconfig " in powershell & check if remote desktop is set to disabled? Can you run " query user /server:computername " in powershell and see which users it shows as logged in (if any).

We don't unfortunately & would cost a fortune to put that in place, would be nice though!

Another thing to note with the free version, you can't manage both Mac's and iPads. It's one or the other

Another to throw in the mix - Mosyle (We use this at my school, albeit we only have 10 iPads currently, which are all shared devices.) Can remotely install apps, lock down the device with a long list of restrictions, customise the home screen.. They offer a free version but it is fairly limited : barely any remote tools.

Turns out it was an old folder redirection policy which was causing this issue. I've rolled out the reg key update as well with the value "%userprofile%\documents" (staff all use local profiles now)

Ah ok, thank you - i shall have a look at that reg key & do some testing. I only redirect Documents to the network, so the other folders/quick access shortcuts have been OK as far as I'm aware (downloads, pictures, etc..)

Does anyone know how to change the path that this shortcut goes to within the start menu? (the documents icon) We changed our file server over the last holiday, and this is still pointing towards the old one. Removal of user profile resolves the issue, not an ideal fix though. Everything else is working as expected (Home folders etc..)

Free? : RSAT with delegated permissions to explicitly only allow password resets on the student OU? Paid : We use Senso classroom management which has a password change feature, which is what our staff use.

Our file server is running Server 2022. Has both of those updates applied. I've not noticed any issues. Everything look ok in server manager > file and storage?

Just had a quick look, some good deals on there! Seen one for £600 with all the modules i need (bar the 10GB ethernet module)

MDT / WDS. Using a fresh ISO, applications installed via task sequence in MDT. Takes about 30 minutes before it's done (bar any windows updates)

No point over complicating things. As above, make sure all computers are numbered / labelled. email helpdesk is easiest & least confusing for staff

Honestly I’m more than happy with it, it’s easy to use, has all the features we need. It’s just the age. I was considering just buying another, but I’m sure that they are EOL now?

I’m just conscious of the fact that it is the oldest bit of kit we have in the server room by a long shot & we have nothing to replace it with on site if it goes kerput. So looking to swap out for a new one of similar spec & keep the 5406 as a spare.

The time has come to look at replacing our core switch.. Looking for recommendations.. We have a HP 5406ZL with the following modules x2 24 port 1GB ethernet x1 6 port 10Gb ethernet x2 8 port SFP 1Gb Management module Redundant power supply I know if we go to our service supplier we will be charged the earth for something similar spec which we don't actually need. I could easily lose one of the 24 port 1GBe modules. the 16 SFP modules are a must as 14 of these are in use currently up linking switches around site

We have a Sophos XG on site, does the job indeed I have seen a few posts about issues with their filtering. I did consider it at the time of purchasing the leased line/s, glad I didn't now & stuck with our on prem. Can confirm that the connection provided has been reliable the past 4 months, zero problems so far

We use Schools Broadband / Talk Straight (only for ISP, don't use their filtering). We have a 1gb fibre line & a 80/20 SoGEA backup (leased line). Costs us around £400 p/m for both on a 3yr contract.
