  1. Interesting but it's still a limited computer and still cannot calculate non computable functions. It indeed is a cluster with paralleled programs, it copes with failure by having redundancy built in. So far it's not doing anything that google doesn't/couldn't do.
  2. Speak to your doctor - you might be accidentally making it worse by using the wrong creams.
  3. If you'r going to argue this point make sure you have your EPO's connected to your UPS's so that should the fire or ambulance service need to kill power to the room you also kill the UPS's.
  4. Awesome - clearly they have fixed it in a later release then
  5. i tried dual head a few years ago with the smart boards - for projection it worked a treat and the particular department staff loved it as there were computer literate - it also meant they didn't have to freeze it to do the register on sims, but the interactive functionality was lost - it just didn't like it, tho this may have been fixed since then.
  6. you could knock something up with Arduino that would tell you if it's running off mains, ups or backup genset quite easily.
  7. well if the client doesn't point to a DNS linked to the AD (an in a domain controller running DNS) then when the client looks for the domain it wont find it, as the other DNS may not have the domain controler listed in it's DNS database. - give it a go, pointing to the DC and see what happens. in the DHPC config on the DC, you can set the DNS servers it sends out.
  8. the domain controler running dns with AD integration should be the DNS on the client? try changing you DNS on client to the address of the server, 10.210.2.8.
  9. I'm currently an undergrad in maths and I use an ASUS tf300 for note taking/surfing and all sorts. It doesn't run my subject specific apps, but i also have a large laptop for that. I use a stylus sometimes cost about 5£. The main reason i use that over anything else is it has a kb if i need it super long battery life and the app on it called supernote is VERY good for my notes. Others use ipads and laptops and one other uses a transformer. All of thoes using other apps to note take prefer our supernote. EDIT; i should say my subject specific apps use GB's worth of ram and are often run on backend servers for a few hours producing results.
  10. ^^ what they said - a trust will be the best thing - will also allow you to share printers too
  11. very interesting
  12. i will be - at the top is should say register now?
  13. FYI they're 6.3mm or 1/4inch jacks, or should be for speaker level signals.
  14. What ^^ said, but also - what's your reason for buying something new - is it a new system or repairing an old one?
  15. that etch a sketch support was brill
  16. so I'm currently a uni student in my second year (used to be a 'real' edugeeker) and thinking about buying the asus eee transformer prime to help me with my lecture note taking. I'm a maths student and know (from another student) that super note that comes with it will be ideal for my note taking needs. Anyone know where the best place to buy one from is and if they come in blue (i've not found a prime in blue yet). Also does anyone have a prime who is willing to comment on the wifi as i've herd and read that the metal body affects it alot. Or should i buy http://uk.asus.com/Tablet/Transformer_Pad/ASUS_Transformer_Pad_TF300T/ over a prime? cheers Matt
  17. have to agree - we had loads fail, PSU and MOBO were swapped out.
  18. Awesome guys - worked a treat - thanks for all the help, advice and support Matt PS; Turns out it was a corrupt download.
  19. Makes scence to me - but i'm dyslexic
  20. Good question - I could imagine you can script them as a 'shutdown script' which would be run only when a shutdown was invoked, not sure to tell you the truth.
  21. I would like to that that any managed UPS (with link to shut ur server down before it dies) would be suited for say 5-20mins extended run time. maybe (i cannot endorse from experience) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Trust-1300VA-Management-UPS-PW-4130M/dp/B0012RW21A/ref=dp_cp_ob_computers_title_3
  22. Well that's the tosh (and others) way of doing things. So was what i was expecting but... Nope - there were 2 partitions, C and D - forget the 100MB system one for now. C was for windows and all the program files apparently (~70GB) and D(~400GB) held the custom recovery WIM file and all of the drivers, and they had set it up so that 'my documents' was on D - but they forgot about all of the other data like desktop ect. It was almost a good idea, so that they can remotely restore the windows partition without loosing my data on D - except most of my data usually reside's on the C drive, and some of documents have to to work. I also use Linux and normally have an instance of server 2003/2008 also for testing things out on. To put it bluntly, they had a reasonably good idea (from them supporting an idiot on the phone downloading viruses perspective), but not followed it through with the details, and completely forgot about those of us who have to have things set in certain ways or they just wont work. eg, some software i use has to sit, both program files and data, on the C drive and cannot contain any spaces if file names or directory structure. Not nice but just the way it is. I wouldn't mind this if i were say an English student and all i use is Word, internet, refworks ect, but i'm not. I'm a maths student with a background in computing (which they know) so they should have given me a laptop where i can install my number crunching apps, simulation apps and data crunching apps without having to fight to get things to work. (i realize this is perhaps not the place to vent my frustration, but for something that is meant to help me it's a lot of hassle.) Anyway - I'll try with a new image (with the correct hash) and see where I get to tomorrow. Thank you for all of you'r input guys, it is very much appreciated.
  23. Do you have a school wide tannoy system?
