After a setup with DHCP on a newer server box, I got couple of clients show up on DHCP list and wanted to move 'em into the reservations list but...it wouldn't let me change to the specific ip address so I can group 'em of each classroom such as *.10 to .*19 for grade 1 to 4th and *.20 to *.29 for grade 5th to 8th. The main reason to do this is because I already have about 40 tightvnc saved files with their ip addresses in 'em for easy deployment. Make sense? Thanks in advanced!

Just solved a problem with a help from someone. What we did; Configured the DHCP scope to include the gateway of 10.210.2.1 in the setting of Scope Options. Appears I didn't add that during the first DHCP setup. Thanks for trying to help. Please lock this thread.

Ok; this is kinda new to me that there wouldn't be a dual DHCP on the same LAN. I have about over 70 nodes and wouldn't want to reserve each machine! What I am trying to get nodes to point to server box so I can add the reserve ip by using context menu in the address leases but the problem still occurs so here's what I did below. Correct me if I did something wrong. 1) Disabled router's DHCP 2) Enable Server's DHCP with forwarders of opendns' numbers -> 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220 3) Workstation - got the ips from server but NO INTERNET. I don't see DNS of opendns but server's. The workstation still wouldn't get online expect the server. Please take a look at it again and see if I miss anything. (Getting very frustrating!) Looks like it but I have over 70 nodes and don't want to add each mac address into the filter list. Plus there's no clickable feature to add into the filter list as well. So I'm going to disable the router's DHCP and let 'em go the server box.

Hello, At this moment, there's two dchp servers running on the same LAN but different on ranges. On the 2k8 machine, I enabled the DCHP server and add one reserved ip from one of test workstation's. After I added it in the reserved list and did a release /renew command and in the reserved list still show inactivate plus the workstation's ip haven't change to the desired ip. What did I miss? Here's the basic lan's ip below. 1) Router - Range -> 10.210.2.120 to *.254 IP Address : 10.210.2.1 Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0 Primary DNS Server : 208.67.222.222 Secondary DNS Server : 208.67.220.220 2) 2k8 R2 -Range -> 10.210.2.30 to *.110 IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 10.210.2.7(Preferred) Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 10.210.2.1 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 127.0.0.1 NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled

There isn't WINS setup and isn't listed in the Administrative Tools. Did I miss something?
-
Hmmm...strange I didn't set that up but I'll take a look to see if I can clean it out.
-
I tend to rename 'em using newsid on each re-image but this doesn't make sense when I don't see the two same names on DHCP list. Is there other way to find out to fix this problem?
-
Before joining the domain, I got the error message shown in the attachment. I looked into dhcp table and didn't see any duplicate name. Any idea how to remove this off from the database in the local?
-
Btw, the DNS is from opendns' just in case if you're wondering.
-
Ok; here's the update. I'm still stuck for joining the domain from client to server. Here's the ip addresses from both machine. (They're able to ping each other.) What did I miss this time? Which server? *.7 or *.8? (I shut down the *.7 for transfer the ip address to 2k8 R2.)
-
Actually I just shut down the main server (The one with *.7) due to the password I forgot. (I put it in the workbook and somehow it won't let me log in so I gave up even tried with linux based boot up password reset the local admin but I think it won't reset the domain, right?) I enabled the DHCP in the router into different range for now. The next step I'm going to change the static ip *.8 to *.7 and do few more things. (Such as testing the one of client with GPO with newer features.) Any more inputs I would love to hear from you.
-
Yes, it should but the *.7 is the currently host the DHCP but don't want to set the client as static to test it (Do I have to do it anyway?)
-
Just finish the server setup and do the client join test but failed. (The server is DISABLED with DHCP for now.) I disabled both firewall and they're able to ping each other expect join the domain.
