AV wallboxes/looms

We need to buy some AV wallboxes for projector installs, and we don't want to go and have to buy ones that are 5m long as they're too long, and the next size that everyone has is 3m which is too short.

 

Does anyone have a reliable supplier who can provide them at 3.5m/4m lengths? We need VGA, USB, Phono and 3.5mm jack, and possibly HDMI.

They've let us down, majorly. We usually get stuff from them but the wall plates we've ordered have now got an indeterminate delivery date...

We buy ours either from CPC, or from SchoolcareICT Solutions For Education, Support, Wireless, ICT Suites, Audio Visualbut almost anyone who will sell you a projector will be able to get hold of sahara gear.

We use a lot of these techconnect faceplates.

 

The standard kit comes with vga, 3.5mm jack, composite video/audio and USB. But they sell every type of module you can think of. HDMI etc.

 

Looms available in 5, 7, 10, 15 and 20m and are easily cut down to the right length.

 

They are a lot stronger then look and are very reliable.

Am I right in thinking that the TechConnect cables can be cut to the length you want, and then re-inserted into their little green clips, with the screwdown bits?

Yes thats correct and there all colour coded so you shouldn't have a problem. Just take your time, You will need a 2.5mm flat terminal screw driver, snips and wire strippers.

They look ideal then. Quite pricey, but then so are custom made ones that are the right length!

We get them at discounted rates due to the quantity we purchase, so they generally work out quite reasonable.

Have had no problems with Go Education.

@localzuk indeed you can and the hdmi you'd just buy a standard cable at the length you need. I get my tech connect stuff from Misco.

I used EuroCables to build all the connections/boxes for our TV studio. They were brilliant. Want to use them again but don't have a project.

We use Euronetwork for this - somewhat pricey, but custom made to the right length. Wall plates, HDMI, audio video & USB cables from cabling specialists

Out of interest why would you use wallplates? We have never bothered installing them in any of our rooms we just do it all over CAT5 with an adapter balun this is for HDMI, Composite, VGA and Audio, one simple cable to run per device and its much smaller and comes in any length

How are you running 3 video, and audio over 1 cat5?

Read that as a single cable, rather than one cable type hehe. Wouldn't you still need some wall box though, or would you just run the cat5 right to pc etc?

Above each projector we have 4 CAT6 points and by the teachers desk we have 6 CAT6 points, this allows, if they require, HDMI (2x cat cables), VGA (1x cat cable) and Composite (1x cat) and then one for the PC and one for a phone if required (we are only just starting to use IP Phones) so we just run a patch lead to the PC and have the little converter box by it and its working well, have about 20 rooms like this now and its great.

 

The VGA over Cat extenders we use have integrated audio for the rooms we use it for that, however they are not that common as we have in-wall amps and ceiling speakers in our new / refurbished rooms, this replaces the wall mounted desk style speakers we previously had and looks and sounds much better.
