GrumbleDook Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 Don't worry, Midget ... a sort of in-joke that I cannot escape. having been in service to Her Majesty (as have few other on here) I am keen to do my own ironing ... and I have taken the opportunity to take people to task for not taking it seriously enough ... Now I can't seem to escape it ... I get followed everywhere by people asking me which brand of starch is best, whether hot and steaming is better than cool and slow ... I keep saying I need to get a life and the fact that I am here, typing this, at gone 12.30 in the morning just proves it.

My name is Robert, just come out of uni. I studied a BA in Business Entrepreneurship. I'm currently working at Ise Community College in Kettering, Northamptonshire (Were a secondary school!). I use to attend the school and helped the IT technicans over several summers! I have returned with the opportunity to implementing a new project! which is really cool. Its all about training for staff and implementing new ideas such as school wide e-mail and researching VLE's. I've created the project from scratch so its my little baby lol. anyways...I'm self taught with a lot of help from current IT technicans and messing around at home. Our current set up is 2 domains, office and curric. DotICT work with our office network (and the bursar likes to take control of that!mmmm) and we look after the curric with 3 2k3 servers and xp clients! with AD and Ranger. I'm also a weekend manager a Currys.Digital or Dixons as people still call it! lol Robert!

Disorder Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 Hi all My name is Pete Geilern. I work in dorset in 4 different schools. My main school is a middle which has been very fortunate funding wise so is running very smoothly and gives me a chance to muck around with some advanced stuff. I work at another middle school which is full of old 98 machines running Netcare from Schoolcare. This part of the job is pretty much just keeping things running in the hope one day they will get some funding. I also work in a first school who I have just help setup a new ICT suite and a Special needs school where I am trying to improve the system they already have. I found this site by following a link in Geoff/Evilgrins sig on another forum. Already been useful and hope i can be of some help to someone else Anyway great site guys, nice to meet you all!

FreeWill Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 I am a new recruit from the BETT Show, after being a passive reader of the site for a few months. I'm an IT Technican in Lincolnshire (14 month contract), currently in my gap year. I'm still undecided on whether or not to go to university, although I have a place guaranteed at the University of Central England to do a Computer Networks & Security Degree. I'm sure I won't make my final decision until the first few weeks of September.. I've been into computers for a few years now, and more recently focused on the networking side of things. I'm finally bored of (and have run out of money for) Microsoft products so am aiming myself towards linux at the moment. Anyway, I'm keen to contribute and share my experiences and advice.

I'm in a Junior School, part time. My job title is ICT Technician/ICT Teaching Assistant, and this is my fifth academic year. The bulk of my hours are officially allocated to being in ICT classes to assist staff and pupils, which means that I do a lot of unofficial hours keeping on top of the tech stuff that most staff seem to expect to happen by magic. When I started this job it was a new post, so I have been able to develop it as I've gone along. This also means, like others, that my job description now bears no relation to the amount and variety of things I actually do. As in other primary setups, the ICT Co-ordinator is a full-time teacher. I am the only in-house support. We started out with a Winsuite peer-to-peer network, moved onto Viglen Classlink with a small Suite of 11 computers and 16 in classrooms, and now have an LNM Windows 2003 Server setup, running a Suite of 31 XP's and the old machines relocated to classrooms and still running Win 2000 Prof. No Ranger or similar. Just LNM and AD and Group Policies. Fun! Previously I was a mum-at-home, and prior to that I worked at a university as their Computer Laboratory Assistant (DOS days!). I am largely self-taught, and the only IT qualification I hold is a dual ECDL/BCS level 2!! Now you know my sad position in the world of IT, can I say how good it is to finally find a site that happily includes female members and those who work in primary schools.

Its not a conscious thing, its simply evolution, decades of compnerding creating electrical pulses in the binarythalimus section of the brain, which in turn form images of scantily clad tech women sat at a PC. These same chemicals cause the thought of a female gamer to stir the same kinds of stimulation that women eating a flake in the old adverts used to stir in normal men. Its truly an unavoidable side effect of computers. I hear the EC are commissioning a study into its effects. Nevertheless, welcome to the boards, and excuse any of us whose typing becomes a little erratic whilst posting in your threads

Is that what they call it these days? Oh... you said "erratic"..... my mistake! :oops: I'm also a new member, and when i'm not lowering the tone, i'm a Systems Manager at a school in Brum. Quals: BSc (Hons) Comp Sci, currently doing a MSc Comp Sci part-time I started to work towards an MCSE but struggling with time more than content. Job Desc: Anything with a plug or looks vaguely technical is "mine/ours". Looking forwards to using this site as somewhere to bounce ideas off, get feedback on ideas, and help anybody else i can. Oh and world peace..... cant forget that.
