  1. Did you want the My Documents folder copied from the local machine to the server? Have you tried unchecking the 'Move the contents of My Documents to the new location' ?

    Interviews

Hi Witch, sorry to hear you didnt get the job but from what ive heard now it was pretty much a forgone conclusion. Probably a case of Head teachers scratching each others backs. So don't take it personally cause I had a friend who was interested in the job aswell and he didn't even get an interview. Best of luck on the next one.
  3. OK what we are looking to do is have a news and messages system so that when the kids come into their classroom there can be a list of messages from staff about clubs and that sort of thing up on the interactive whiteboard. Plus the staff need to be able to "easily" write their own messages to be displayed. At the momment we are using a guest book, so the member of staff loads up the site types in their name and message and it is added to the page. This doesn't work as normally there are more messages than can fit on the page so someone would have to sit their scrolling up and down. So the ideal thing would be a powerpoint slideshow with a different message on each slide that cycles round. I havent got a hope of getting the staff to make a powerpoint slide for a message so we cant really use that. So what would you do? I was thinking some kind of website thing with perhaps a simple webform that puts a message in thats automatically generated into some kind of slide show thing. Im not very good with the old web design and coding so dont know how easy this sort of thing would be. Any help or advice is much appreciated.
  4. ignore this for now it works on some machines and not others. Will see if i can see a difference.
  5. Ok here the problem, we are using D-link 2100 access points around the school. The only machines that really connect to them are the computers on teachers desks. Weve had problems in the past but they have been working quite smoothly as long as you can convince the teachers to be patient. Anyway we have just come up with a new problem, when a student logs in on a machine it connects then as processes and things are loading up it drops. It then connects again and disconnects a couple of seconds later and this just keeps going. Now if a member of staff logs in it disconnects again as the processes are loading up but then connects again and stays connected. If your an administrator it works fine and doesn't disconnect at all. Im guessing it must be permissions or something somewhere but ive looked and cant find anything. Any help would be much appreciated.
  6. Thanks, will keep my eye on that incase someone comes up with a work around.
  7. Right heres the problem. We are creating a moodle system for an educational partnership between a large group of schools. Its all setup courses are done but we are having to add teachers, lots of teachers. Now on the list of courses screen it displays the course, the summary and list of teachers for that course and we are going to have alot of teachers on each course which is going to take up a lot of space. Anyone have a way I can hide the teachers on there so all I get is a list of the courses. Or maybe some other solution would be grand. Thanks in advance. Pete.

    SEN Laptop

If you are only looking for something that does word processing and perhaps a bit excel you might want to think about an alpha smart. We have 5 of them to hand out to kids when they need them. They can type stuff in lessons rather than write and then connect it up to a pc at the end of the day and transfer any work that they have done on to the system. We also have one for a particular child which uses palm software and has a small touch screen, plus he can hotsync it each evening before he goes home.
  9. Thanks for the explanation of the use of win98 Imaging, ive been looking into this for the last couple of weeks for several of the schools i look after. Buying ghost or similar isnt really an option sadly, for any of the schools at this time. Now im not being lazy or anything but if there is any good open source imaging software someone can recommend I would be most greatful. The other issue I have with imaging is that all the 98 machines dont all have the same hardware, am i gonna struggle with different drivers for alot of the machines if I am going to image them? thanks again Pete.
  10. Boxes and boxes of crappy software and maintaining the machines they already have. Oh and I think Schoolcare convinced them to buy 2 new win 2003 servers one of which just has cds on it. Hopefully since i was requested to come and work here for a few hours a week they might listen to me before parting with the money next year.
  11. Money is the main cause. The school can't afford to replace the machines and get XP. They are hoping to replace one suite in april but that seems a very long way away right now. So sadly all i can do is try and keep them running as smoothly as possible. But thanks for the advice gonna try some stuff this afternoon.
  12. heh i wish the landfill was an option i really really do. Another issue with them is Sophos. It seems to install and update each time someone logs in and with the kids being the patient people they are they want 20 programs open within the first 5 seconds of the application starter loading up. Anyone know of a way to stop sophos doing this and maybe only do it with a manager account or something?
  13. Right not sure what to do with this one. Ive been left the above message in my job book at one of the middle schools i work at. Ive only been there this term so this is the first time i have been told to do this. Ive got 40 win 98 machines running the schoolcare software on them apparently they keep crashing and are generally slow. Now the best way i can come up with is to take the schoolcare software off but apparently I am not allowed to do that! SO anyway if you had a load of win98 machines that needed cleaning up what would you do? Cause apart from running antivirus, anti spyware and doing a defrag im not sure what to do. Thanks for any advice.
  14. Hi all My name is Pete Geilern. I work in dorset in 4 different schools. My main school is a middle which has been very fortunate funding wise so is running very smoothly and gives me a chance to muck around with some advanced stuff. I work at another middle school which is full of old 98 machines running Netcare from Schoolcare. This part of the job is pretty much just keeping things running in the hope one day they will get some funding. I also work in a first school who I have just help setup a new ICT suite and a Special needs school where I am trying to improve the system they already have. I found this site by following a link in Geoff/Evilgrins sig on another forum. Already been useful and hope i can be of some help to someone else Anyway great site guys, nice to meet you all!
  15. Just been reading about this on another forum. Seems someone else had the same problem and all they did was rename the image file to desktop.jpg and changed the group policy to refelect that and it worked again.
