I have just got some surface RT devices at the educational price of £130. I've managed to connect them to our guest wi-fi. Internet access is fine as the go straight out and not through the internal proxy. There is a transparent proxy with our provider but that's it. However the 'Store' and 'Windows' update do not working! I've monitored our CISCO ASA but nothing gets stopped. Anybody come across this before. Thanks Michael.

The hotfix certainly fixed the problem. I have now implemented this in to our build.

Students have found away to abort some of the GPOs we have. At the point during login when the 'Apply Personal Settings' first appears they pull the network cable. This prevents some of the GPO options being applied. Like proxy settings for the internet etc. The only way I have prevented this from causing a problem is by added those GPO settings into the Mandatory profile we have. This is a little messy and not all thing work correctly. Has anyone got any ideas. Michael.

Have been suffering with this problem for several days!! This morning, after viewing endless userenv.logs and searching the net, I have come across a hotfix from Microsoft. I'm just downloading it. Checkout the link below:- When you try to log on to a Windows XP SP3-based computer by using a roaming profile, the roaming profile cannot load. Michael.

With the latest updates I don't get the problem anymore. Michael.

The problem was down to Favourties. We've got a script that copies the user favourites from the local pc to the server on logoff and from the server to the local pc on login. This is because favourites are lost when mandatory profile users logoff. For some reason the script hadn't setup the favourites folder correctly. When contribute launches it looks for the favourities folder and if it can't find it just crashes out. Weird! Michael.

I have been having problems with my backups failing. They appear to be related to VSS issues as mention in KB833167. I selected the download hotfix from microsoft and received a link to hotfix4.0 site. The file downloaded fine but when unzipped there was a text file inside with the following message:- "Due to a bug in Hotfix 4.0 we cannot make submissions to the symbol server without uploading a file. This is a dummy file in place of the GDR that you were searching for. Once the testing of this fix is complete it will be released on http://www.microsoft.com/downloads" Does anyone know what this is? Regards Michael.

I've been working on a new build for this summer and wanted to implement Mandatory profiles. Everything seams to work fine until I attempted to use Contribute 3.11. Each time you launch the program the splash screen appears for a short time and then nothing happens. When I looked in \Documents and Settings\teacher\Local Settings\Application Data\Macromedia\Contribute 3\Configuration\CrashLogsfor I noticed a Contribute Crash log (1).mdmp. But this doesn't really help. If a make them a non-mandatory user it works fine. I've checked the mandatory files and everything has the correct permissions. Can anyone help? Thanks Michael

Its the only way we know to display a background image which the students cannot override with their own images. We have a different image displayed for both teachers and students. If there's a better way of doing it I would love to know. I also tried to have 'bginfo.exe' display login/pc details as a background image. But the students managed to override the image. :? Michael.

Hi plock, The image is a .jpg file located on a shared area on one of our servers. Its just pointed to that area in the GPO. Michael.

I've just been working on a new laptop build and decided to install Internet Explorer 7 as part of the latest updates. Its appears to run fine. The only problem I have is with Active Desktop. We have set-up the GPO to display the school logo as a background image and locked it down to prevent students changing the image. This has now stopped working and no image is displayed. I did read elsewhere on the net that IE7 has reduced functionality for Active Desktop. Anybody have any ideas. Thanks Michael. :?

Managed to fix this problem. I created a wrapper vbs / exe which mapped the users Application Data directory to a drive letter and updated the registry. On exiting the registery is amended back and map drive is removed. Works fine for all the DiDa products. Michael.

We have recently purchased 'Edexcel DiDA Using ICT ActiveTeach' CD-Rom and 'Students ActiveBook' CD-Rom. I have been trying to run these from disc and also from a local installation with out much success. 8O All I get is a white screen. Having looked into it on the centraal.uk.knowledgebox.com, as mention in the CD readme file, there is a problem with UNC redirection on the Application Data folder. We currently have Windows 2003 servers with XP clients. Students have local profiles with Folder redirections (including Applicataion Data :? ). The following web page states that because of improvements to Flash Player (mm... :x ) UNC redirection via GPOs are not supported. I have the same problem with Dreamweaver. Anyone else had the same problem? Making changes from UNC to map drives would be a big job; just for one programme. Michael.

I have just downloaded a trial copy of AB Tutor to play with. Installing the teacher module was no problem. I've come to install the client module and would like an easier way of deploying than going to each PC. As the software is a MSI package I was wondering whether anyone had any usefull tips for deploying by GPO in Win2k3. Or is there another way of doing this. Thanks Michael.

Hi all, I'm having a few problems with Dreamweaver trying to locate user files. My current PC Build is with XP sp1 and Studio 8. When a user tries to select 'Save as..' in Dreamweaver it looks into the following: \\server\year\username\application data\macromedia\dreamwaever 8\configuration\temp\flash elements\imageviewer it should be looking into: \\server\year\username\my documents The other studio 8 packages like Flash and Fireworks etc work fine. I tried contacting Adobe support but had no joy, they told me that roaming profiles etc are not supported. 8O I have just started working on a new PC Build for the summer which includes XP sp2 and the latest patches for Dreamweaver 8. This has not fixed the problem and now Dreamweaver will no start-up. All I get is the message 'This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in affect on this computer....' I have made no other changes. :? Can anyone help :?: Michael.
