Just to say "Hi" - another BETT recruit. One who wishes she'd known about EduGeek earlier!

A brief intro:

Far too long ago I did a degree in computing (starting on punch cards!) before becoming a mainframe PL/1 progammer and then Systems Programmer/DBA.

I was a helper at my kids primary school until they realised how much I knew about computers and ended up as IT support there. I'm now supporting the staff, pupils and PCs at a small prep school 5 minutes from home.

Officially I'm ICT Support Assistant/Librarian... though the job includes Marketing and all sorts!

With a Windows 2003 Server and 24 XP PCs (the network was installed only 12 months ago) I'm enjoying it. :D

Welcome elsiegee40 :)

Should have kept quiet about being female though we only just got jake under control after the last one introduced herself :)

Not all of us are nutters :)

Just Jake :)

Just a different way of doing things....

Makes you think things through before you do them... and then spend time agonising when you realise you've submitted a job that's wrong and won't be able to correct it for an hour or so!

The kit's a bit more portable now! I wouldn't go back! :)

WOOHOOO !!!

Female tech PC babe stack overflow error !!

*shakes uncontrollably and collapses in a exhausted heap of mental images on his keyboard*

Back in your cage, Jake

Great to see another female. I'm also from a technical background and certainly know what it means to be the only woman amongst loads of male nutters

So, given that one woman equals about, um, 500 men, that means that there is now more of us (in brain power anyway) than you!!

Wish I'd taken my ironing to BETT now

*climbs sulkily back in his cage and hangs the "Do not speak of women and PCs in the near vicinity" sign back up*

(linky no work Russ, but I suspect I know the picture :) )

Welcome PaulBM

Apparently you came runner up for the ironing board :)

Nice to see more females joining, Andie your job sounds so similar to mine I almost thought it was me posting!

This board is brill for advice, also I've found myself getting moist eyes at the 'I'm a new Dad, sleepless nights' postings recently (must be my age) I'm still looking for postings about I'm a 'mum of teenagers, they wake you up when they come home' postings so I can join in with them!

Another Bett Recruitee, would have posted this at some point yesterday whilst things were fresh in my head but I made the mistake of meeting up with a friend for a 'creative brainstorming' session. 7 pints and 3 packs of crisps later I wandered home. So yeah.... intro.

Work for a College in Surrey, started as a Senior Technician in 2003, was 'promoted' in 2004. Since then I've tried to drag our system to as high an operating point as possible with the help of an ever circulating duo of technicians (Indeed the current Snr, who is due to assume another position at the college, was my predecessor to the job). The Network has around a dozen servers of varying spec and build, 1000+ workstations of varying makes and models, usually whatever we can get reliably for the least amount of money. There's also a mac subset comprising of one Mac Quad G5 server with a 2.5TB Raid Array hanging off it, and 60 odd macs that are used in the performing and visual arts fields.

Through all this I've survived.

My personal self in a data burst: Married, Rocker, Hippie, Internet DJ, Nerd, Geek, Advocate of Real Cider, perpetually trying to break into a creative media field.

A fair point, assuming you were referring to the fate of the previous manager. Other than that I don't see anything else that might land me in legal trouble, trouble with the wife on the other hand (I arrived back from London rather late)...
