I designed an IT Ninja T-shirt, which i should really put up on CafePress now they print on black. I could never bring myself to get it printed on white...

it seemed... unnatural.

Sorry to break up the sharing of comics, boys!

of which only the mornings are useful as thats when the suite is not used so I can carry on with most of my list of jobs.

Be thankful that you get the mornings! At my school the policy is to have the Suite booked whenever staff want it, to justify having spent the money on it primarily, which is fair enough. Which means that I am now a nomadic techie, moving from Suite to classroom and back to Suite to get my work done. Not always convenient, but if I need to image the Suite I am allowed to book the whole room to myself. And I did get my own adjustable chair this year, instead of the plastic stool, so mustn't complain.

well they do actually book it occasionnally in the mornings as well but i have the power to close the suite when I want to get something done but if it gets too noisy i tend to wander off to try to find a quiet spot in the school to work (ha ha that's a good joke!)

I am allowed to book out the second IT suite if I need to do something drastic - but not the main one. There is one lesson where it is empty during the time I am in, and I rush to get stuff done then. This often results in me shouting "No, don't touch the computers" when the new class come in and try to log on!

As for a chair - I dont even have a workstation, never mind a chair!!

I don't have a workstation either, just a chair!!! (To be fair, I didn't ask for that, they just thought I ought to have one. The workstation may have been more useful...!).

It's good to know that I'm really not the only one struggling with this kind of work experience. Sometimes, other staff have a way of looking at you that makes you question whether you are just being awkward when you tell them that their piece of software may take longer than 20 minutes to install on 31 machines and work on the network....

Hi,

Just recently found this site. I am an ICT technician/C2K manager in 2 schools in Larne, Northern Ireland.

Anyone else here from the wonderful island were C2K rules the roost?

P.S. After further reading I though I would add that I am a fully paid up member of the Geek club.

Heard about this site through some fellow consultants who would (of course) wish to remain anonymous. I work as a consultant myself for a very large company in the UK that not many people like (much anyway). We do have tentacles out into education, and my presence here right now (if that's alright with you) is exploratory. We don't "sell" anything, so I won't be peddling my wares on here.

Recent calls for work within schools around the northants area and beyond have led us to set up a network of people with specific technical skills so that we can target those needs better. I know that's vague and it will have to stay that way. I'm not allowed by my employer to say much else.

Seems like a grand site to be on with a broad spectrum of skills. I will stick around a while and see what I can pick up.
