  1. Have a look at Learnpad
  2. Little Miss, Do a search on the BCC intranet at inline.birmingham.gov.uk and do a search for 'cycle to work scheme' should throw few PDF's that contain the info and links required to find out more. Essentially though it's a salary sacrifice scheme that allows you to chose, via any approved supplier in scheme, any bike up to £1000.
  3. Among other things not least the 60-90 day average lead times required by most companies (including Openreach) to install cabling for new lines. They have a lot of planning to do for new installs. Often that can include asking local councils if they dig up roads and footpaths etc and that can and does take time to get permission for. Then there is booking the teams to actually do the digging and install. So the earlier you tell them and get the survey organised and completed the better! Less waiting around later!
  4. Have a look at this search engine optimisation guide from Google. It gives some good general tips on how to improve the site design etc, which will help the sites ranking on Google.
  5. Janet offer free SSL Certs to schools via your LEA or RBC. JCS School Extension
  6. Are these machines laptops? PcPro for this month has done an article on how to upgrade the wireless card in a laptop. It's one of the few standard components you can upgrade in a laptop! In fact it is the built-in ariels that are the limiting factor.
  7. I go on holiday (currently in sunny Cairns) and everything stops working! Sounds like it was sorted quickly!
  8. Simple answer is yes. Better to set the server to be the DNS for the network configued with fowarders to your ISP DNS servers.

  10. Trapper, Here is the link in the Link2ICT knowledgebase (only visible to Birmingham Schools connected to BGfL) for IT equipment disposal. http://kb.link2ict.org/display/4/kb/article.aspx?aid=1397&n=1&docid=1213&tab=search
  11. For just basic VC why not use Windows built in solution Net Meeting? Should work in your set-up as long as Cleo's routing between the VLAN's allows it. To set up NetMeeting go to Start>Run and type conf.exe to configure NetMeeting which will also put an icon on your desktop.
  12. And the same applies here in Birmingham! We do check things like lease times etc. But as long as you can justify the need for extra IP addresses and have taken steps to preserve and manage the ones you have, we are generally happy to allocate more. The one 'gotcha' is that we do somtimes have to move a school to a new IP block, as the another school may 'own' the IP block/s a school needs to expand into to extend it's current IP range. As moving IP range is a big job for both us and the school, we do these kind of changes over school holiday periods if possible, so as to keep disruption to a minimum.
  13. Tell me were this is in Brizzy mate and I may well go and get one myself when out there in June/July 2011!
  14. My favourite from said site is this one.... http://thereifixedit.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/1787b9a4-b116-4f9c-b6b2-c6b4477c73e0.jpg
  15. As long as you can give good reasons most RBC/LA will allow you to expand your IP range. This may involve a change of your host range though, as the host range you are currently using may have others schools sitting in the IP block you wish to expand into, so the RBC/LA will move you to a new range that is free for the subnet you require. As this is a lot of work for both the RBC/LA and school side, here in Brum we do this kind of change over school holidays. At the end of the day ask you LA team how best to resolve the IP issue you are having, as they are best placed to advise and help.
