Although I have been a member for many years, never actually got round to introducing myself. So having recently started in a new school. Thought now would be a good time.

 

Worked in IT since university, having taken Computing O level with my A Levels as that is when my school started offering that course (gives my age away).

Started in a business environment, then moved to education just over 11 years ago, first at a Primary, then a secondary and now in a SEN school.

Welcome. It sounds a very similar career path to mine, except the first computer was proudly shown off by my Physics teacher during my final year at secondary school. O Level wasn't an option for me :D You probably dodged the punch cards at university too! (We had punch cards for output at one of my employers, a major insurer, until the late 1990s!)

Yes missed the punch cards - but did get taught about new technology that might take off such as bar codes!

Still waiting for the paperless office though.

Wow - late 1990's, that's going some. I saw punch cards in use at a life insurer for a pension scheme in late 80's and it wasn't thought cost effective to rewrite - plus they knew the remaining policyholders weren't likely to be around for too much longer!

When we finally got rid of the punches our failsafe site was jubilant... until they realised they had 2 other customers using them. One of our cast offs went to the science museum. The failsafe site took the others for spares

Its not a hello but more of thank you. i am soon to be leaving the world of educational IT and would like to say that this site has helped with sooooo many problems through odd fixes and nuggets of knowledge gleamed through years of pain. I will remain a member if allowed but will not be able to contribute much more (although i think my new job will provide its own set of amusing stories and quotes). Thank you the Edugeek family, you are all awesome because you put up with other human beings even though you know you hate them really lol.

By all means you can remain a member (quite a few regulars are now ex-education) and please don't be a stranger.

Tales from the private sector are just as entertaining as schools!

Hi everyone! I've just moved to a new company near Bristol. We do IT support for schools.

I used to work at a school about 10 years ago so I recognise some usernames from spending lots of time on here and I'm glad to be back :)

Hello there.

I am David. I am a Field Engineer to a northern local authority.

My remit includes admin offices, surveyors, transport depots, museums, forestry depots, schools, children's centres, leisure centres, home workers and pretty much anything that is public funded in our bit of West Yorkshire.

We are running Microsoft Servers and mainly Windows7 and Windows 10.

 

I cover both hardware and software and telephones. If they bought it... I support it.

 

I am looking forward to posting and reading. I am impressed with the expertise on here
