a) We really are friendly and helpful - just ask for help and we will be there - either technical or just supportive

Most of us are experts in sorting out messes - and many of us have probably had worse to deal with - just ask and help will appear

 

just as a starting point - start a new thread in the relevant forum and let us know the basics

If you have any passwords for anything then there are people on here who have started in a worse place (jup - including me!)

Are we talking 'CAT5e cables connected with sellotape' physical kind of mess? or Hyper-V, vlan, DHCP type of mess?

End of life equipment, nothing LDAP binded, black login screen of death, WiFi assigning invalid IPs, icons randomly missing from desktop/taskbar, 10min log in time, printers queues get stuck or fail to print, etc ....

Well, Hi there!

 

Not really an introduction as I first joined EduGeek in 2008; however, however have now gone full circle - qualified as a teacher, but due various reasons... I am about to restart life as a school tech!

 

So, what what I missed in the last 11 years??

 

The last school I was at was an RM CC3 site, now at a ~2,000 user vanilla site, with hosted O365

Been here for a couple weeks but just discovered this thread! I'm currently a MIS officer for a London LA, mainly helping Primary schools with SIMS, still new to this side of things as I've only been here a couple of months.

 

However I can draw on my previous job as a School Admin Officer where I was for the last 5 and a bit years with most of my current knowledge, Otherwise I find that I'm drawing back on knowledge from my IT A-levels.. it's only been 7 years since I left school myself but now I've screwed my IT head back on - a lot has changed in such a small space of time!

 

So far I've been using Edugeek as a bit of a cheat sheet, hoping I can contribute more moving forward.

 

Now - *holds door for next newbie* - who's next?

Im a tech, currently managing the network at a North Yorkshire secondary. The advice my boss gave me on his way out was 'join Edugeek'. So hello. I am exactly 50/50 there is no one else remaining I trust to do the IT in this place / drinking tea and nodding wisely at people is nice at the moment...
