Matzo Posted July 13, 2018 Posted July 13, 2018 I'm a software developer, specialise in Intranets but do all sorts of web applications. Started out in life as an IT Technician for a FE college then moved onto infrastructure. I ended up doing software development because I worked for organisations who didn't have the budget to buy software or wouldn't spend any money.

chaplic Posted August 19, 2018 Posted August 19, 2018 Saying hello.. introduction will be a little long... Day job is I have a company that helps big firms with architecting end user computing - office 365, windows, email, that sort of thing. I am a parent with a son at a small school.. which we liked a lot, but I could see the IT was lacking. So I offered the head / board a reasonably big donation with the condition I did it right, and flexed my contacts to get goodies for free/ cheap. End result is documented here https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/uktechnet/2016/06/13/modernising-infrastructure-at-a-village-primary-school/ I had no desire to commercially do their IT service because, at the risk of humblebragging they couldn’t afford my usual rates. But the head was very persuasive so I drew up a very fair T&M contract. To date I’ve only billed materials on the privisio they are happy to work with my availability, and I’ve trained a couple of staff in basic admin, plus have overkill levels of redundancy. So sticking around here at first was just learning the environment of schools ICT as it is different from big corps and they don’t have to deal with the horror of SIMs! Then, putting on another hat I became a governor so directly interested in strategy and finance, and of course things like MAT are on the radar. So looking to contribute a bit and learn ‘how others do it’ 2
Ditto Posted August 19, 2018 Posted August 19, 2018 Welcome aboard! Great blog and hopefully an inspiration to others. I'm really impressed that you had a section on 'Documentation and guidance' - shows you to be a true professional.
