  1. Thank you for this. Will have to make sure that I consider everything. As you are right it is probably best to get one good camera for video and stills and make sure that it can cope with low light.
  2. In my role as Network Manager / School Photographer I will need to video the "School Show" the camcorders I inherited are old so I would like to get 1 decent one. I could also do with a good digital SLR as again the ones belonging to the school are poor quality and up to now I have been using my own with a school owned SDCard. I will also need a set of backdrops and lighting to take the individual child shots. They would like to use me rather than pay for an official photographer, partly because they think I am good and partly because I can try again tomorrow if the student is not in the mood or off sick - I work in an SEN school. Does anyone have any recommendations? I like the look of this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08MXPXY9K/?coliid=I1IQXCMAXR3JSV&colid=ZWRQFVP3B8KW&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it Thanks
  3. Hi Would you believe moving to Windows 10 fixed my original issue. In case anyone else wants to take the risk we are using Windows 10 with Smart Notebook 11.4. We have SMART SPNL 6065 v2 boards, they replaced the older ones at some point last year, before I started in September. I have warned SLT & teachers, that we are living on borrowed time and one day there will be a Windows update or something that will mean that this might never work again. Meanwhile everyone is happy. I know this is going to bite me on the bum one day. But worst case scenario - reimage the PC's to the version of Windows at this point in time.
  4. Thank you so much for all your replies. You have given we some really good suggestions. Think I may check out Loxley as I am not convinced the resolution on the photos is enough for photobox etc.
  5. Thanks - Have you ever used either? What did you think of the quality? Not sure why I am so worried about the quality of the canvas, what will let me down is the quality of the photographs!!
  6. Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but as we all know, we wear many different hats. Anyway I have 7 photographs that I need to get mounted onto canvas, to go into one of out meeting rooms. I am trying to work with a local company, that do this sort of thing, however it is proving an uphill struggle. I am speaking to a sales person, who is then speaking to the studio, who are then producing pdf's of what it will look like etc, which isn't always what I had asked for. They are also more expensive than Photobox!! So can anyone recommend a company that I can do all of this online, in a variety of different sizes (but about A1). I have never had any of my photos put onto canvas, so haven't seen anything close up and checked the quality of the canvas wrap around vs the photo to start with. So I need your help. Thanks
  7. Yes missed the punch cards - but did get taught about new technology that might take off such as bar codes! Still waiting for the paperless office though.
  8. Yes, just by myself. I was in a team of 3/4 before and by myself before that. I did prefer working in a team, but this was too good an opportunity to miss. The office/bursar/site team have included me in their group so we will have a team Christmas dinner as well as the school one, so I think this could be the best of both worlds. Also get an external engineer in for two hours a fortnight so I can always talk "techy" with him
  9. Although I have been a member for many years, never actually got round to introducing myself. So having recently started in a new school. Thought now would be a good time. Worked in IT since university, having taken Computing O level with my A Levels as that is when my school started offering that course (gives my age away). Started in a business environment, then moved to education just over 11 years ago, first at a Primary, then a secondary and now in a SEN school.
  10. Wow, thank you all for the many suggestions. Something to keep me busy until Christmas!!
  11. Thanks tmoon-mint. It just looks a bit too different!! Also we would probably want to import out existing files. Thanks that might mean we have to spend the money...
  12. Hi We currently have SMARTboards in the school and use SMART Notebook 11.4. This is still running - just! One of our users is having continuous problems with the Notebook software. Keeps on freezing and she is having to load the file up again. A short disruption, but we are a special needs school so any disruption has a disproportionate affect on the children. So far I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software. Replaced the PC entirely with a brand new image (so new hardware and a new image - not the old image updated) Local Profiles so effectively a new profile as well. She is making a note every time it happens, so different classes, different files and different links and different types of links (ie not all sound files etc). Obviously SMART Notebook 11.4 is well out of support, but has the perpetual licence, so we are not breaking any licensing agreement. So do we bite the bullet and upgrade to the latest version and pay the annual costs, where they have the option to increase the prices at any time? Or can anyone recommend any other (free or cheap) software that could be used instead? We are moving to Windows 10 shortly, so definitely needs to be compatible with Windows 10. (We could always upgrade her early so it doesn't have to be compatible with Windows 7) Thanks from someone who needs to think of as cool avatar and sign-off.
  13. I tried googling the first few letter and got Hugo Scheiber - see pic of his signature
  14. A Thank You from me as well. It fixed our issue.
  15. Thanks - trying to running a backup now.
  16. Nothing that I can see - found a database called Extranets and a Mdf file though
  17. I have changes to the website both today & yesterday. The file is saying last modified on the 23rd
  18. Thanks Under Content Databases only ExtranetS is listed - my file in the singular Extranet, this is the plural.
  19. Extranet has no file extension - no idea why (& yes I have turned on view file extensions). I have access to everything - OK with everything else just Sharepoint is a black art.
  20. Hi The people who knew sharepoint left years ago, since then we have been adding the odd link, changing room bookings etc. But have all been too scared to do much in case we break it as we do NOT have the knowledge required to fix it. To be honest it is not widely used but there is some key information still there that needs to stay and requires updating. So it has to stay in some form or other. I want to upgrade the OS (from 2003 to either 2012), virtualise the server, and feel more comfortable about how it is put together. The first stage is to remove old data - we really do not need to know who had booked room 5, in period 2, on the 22nd Jan 2008! The most urgent question is what is the file called EXTRANET? Why is it 160GB - yup GB? How do I shrink it? Is Extranet the external access to the website as this is now only available internally? What would happen if I rename it? If it all goes horribly wrong can I just rename it back and it will fix itself? Why was it last updated on the 23rd March, when I spent most of yesterday (27th March) removing old photos and room bookings? Is there something like WinDirStat I can use on a website to find out what is taking up all the space? Is the fact that this file is in a directory called 'Farm Backups' mean it is a backup and can be deleted? Thank you for any help and please can any replies understand that I know nothing about Sharepoint. Debbie
  21. Not in a school, but have had a disaster - we were lucky that the servers stayed up but we could not access the site for weeks. Good that you are taking backups BUT How often do you test your restores? Have you ever restored a server? Where is your backup server in relation to your other servers? Do you keep backups off-site or in a fireproof safe? What sort of downtime is acceptable - Risk vs. Probability Think about scenarios. One of your server rooms has blown up: Can you access your backups? Can you do a restore - e.g. is your tape drive accessible? What can you restore to? What loss in performance is OK - e.g. Everyone using the one domain controller? What is the most important server/data - probably SIMS, then what? What timescales are acceptable? If minimal downtime is needed - how much is it worth, this is your budget. Work out what you would do in each scenario. A hard drive fails in a server - A server fails - A server room fails - The entire school burns down -
  22. same as eejit, just delete from SCCM after a rebuild and run a full discovery. I think it is a "feature"
  23. I am trying to restore a students work from a tape backup on the 4th October. Thankfully it is no longer required BUT I have to be able to restore from tape as part of any decent DR. I have never actually had to resore from tape before but I have done a variety of restore from disks in the past, which were successful. I am getting this error message: File copy failed due to an I/O error. Source location: C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012\DPM\DPM\Temp\7c0c302d-690d-46e4-955f-fd3357e4f0b4. I have run DPMSync - Sync I am NOT a DBA but have just done a load of Googling. Thought I should check the integrity of the DPM Database So have tried some SQL Queries - DBCC DBInfo (DatabaseName) with tableresults go This showed that DBCC checkdb had never been run before - Whoops DBCC checkdb (DatabaseName) with no_Infomsgs go Could not see any messages or results – so I am hopefully assuming the database is fine Ran the DBCC DBInfo query again and I am now getting a last known good date of today What else can I check or what possible cause could there be? Thanks Debbie
  24. Well I resolved this issue - cannot remember how though. Think the database got its knickers in a twist, so had to resync. Since then I have also rebuilt the server as 2012 & installed DPM 2012. Installed a QNAP box as we were constantly running out of hard disk space. To resync On the DPM Server Run DPM Management shell At the prompt type "DpmSync -Sync" without speach marks. This is assuming that there is only the one DPM Server and only the one database. That takes a few minutes to run. Afterwards try creating the new protection group Good Luck, if that doesn't work I will have another think
  25. Could I possibly have a copy of this as well please. Thanks
