So does can anyone come up with any suggestions for the following Hatchback Cheap to tax - I only do about 3000 a year so really resent paying £180 pa Rear seats that fold down flat or that fold up behind the front seats, like the Renault Scenic did. Enough space with the seats folded down for my golf clubs and trolley or my soon to be born Grandchild's pushchair or my son's big brown dog. Or a combination of all three! (But mainly my golf stuff:D) Passenger air bag that can be deactivated. Under £5000 Not a Micra or Berlinga style OAP car. Doesn''t matter if the 0-60 is a week and a half, because we've got a proper car for long journeys. Ideas gratefully received.

Engine size requirements 2. Engine type ie petrol or diesel Also the age of the car will make a difference ref tax ie 2001 or newer goes on emissions and not the age of the car otherwise its done on the age and engine size of the car afaik ( could be wrong ). I also found that having ( maybe it's just me ) but insurance seemed to be higher and also diesel costs a bit more per litre although comparing my petrol 1.6 honda to my friends 306 diesel peugot , he fills up once for about £80 and gets aprox 600 miles where as I fill up for £60 and get 400 miles ( give or take a little bit ) I had a nissan almera before my honda and the insurance on the almera was a lot lower and had quite a bit of room in it. Although if you need more boot room then you will most likely need an estate type car ie honda accord or similar My Nissan almera was a 1.4 not a 1.6 ( as I know you get a 1.6 of the almera ). FYI - I like my japense cars, more my hondas now ( I've only ever had petrol cars )

I couldn't cope with a picasso (my dad drives one and I think they have a max speed of 25) nor a panda. I've got a megane convertible atm so it's got to be a bit trendy! The wife had the "type S", which was big enough for us, but the 5 door has the "magic seats" and apparently you can fit 4 rhinos and a pot plant in there. Was lowest-but-one tax band I think as well (this was an 08 model), and that's the 2.2 that can go some.

Best bet is to search on auto trader with your requirements ie Min to max price An area that you are willing to drive to and from ie within 60 miles or whatever leave make and model of cars as anything Set other requirements ie petrol, hatch back, 5 door etc Click Search and go through all the cars it brings up and make a list of ones you like the look of as far as looks ( trendy looking ) , price etc - you can even use Honest John Which will show you pro's and con's about each car as far as what normally breaks down on them, what they normally fail on for MOT's , reliability , mileage etc Which will hopefully narrow your list of cars down and go from there.

I am not sure what you are thinking of but Pandas are not very big: "1.58 m wide, 1.54 m high and 3.54 m long, with a wheelbase of just 2.30 m – belie an exceptionally spacious, flexible interior." Golf GTI? Astra convertible?

Yaris can beat them in economy terms..and no batteries to worry about.
peterp Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Dont go Diesel ifyou are not doing a lot of miles. Particulate filters dont get hot enough to regen unless they run for a good 45 mins. Short trips will seriously reduce the life of the car.

Tax would be cheap (on Jems it's still under the old system, on newer ones I have no idea but with a 1.2 engine available that's apparently very good, I would think cheap), seats do as you say - front cushion raises and the backs fold flat. Yonks of space in it (may not look it from outside, but it's quite spacious!). Polo parts, so plentiful and cheap. VW without the badge to raise the price.
Netman Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 You might like to look at a second hand Toyota Aygo - 55mpg £15 pa Road tax, not much of a boot, but rear seats drop down - I get mine and my Father-in-law's clubs in the back easily. Cheap to insure too...
3s-gtech Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Peugeot 106 1.5 diesel. Late one. Cheap tax, enough load space with the seats down, nice basic but reliable diesel without any modern tech to go wrong. 0-60 takes two and a half weeks, and it consumes very little fuel. Cheap too.
