New ICT support Office, what would you do?

So I finally have a new ICT support office!

 

Its actually a beautiful room about twice as big as you see in the Pic.

So what if you were given a brand new office how would you design it? I'm thinking

 

- LCD screen mounted on the wall showing our ICT job List, Server Monitor and Bookings sheet.

- Also was thinking of hooking up the sound system to make a nice sound when a job is completed.

 

Any other things I should be looking at? Our estates lady has asked me if I need anything else done before moving in....

We have about 16 network points in our office and those aren't enough sometimes!

Loads of power sockets, your own network cab with several switches and some wall mounted monitors above a decent work bench with a half height shelf so you can put monitors and tools on it. Some lockable storage for stuff that will fly out the door. Some wall mounted monitors for monitoring equipment.

I will put a gigabit switch in the room for the network points.

 

Power will be Done through those 6000 VA rack APC units stacked up in cardboard boxes

 

Anything else? I'm thinking some motivational posters but not sure what to get.

If you can get repair stations set up, that'll be the best thing in there. 4 wall mounted monitors above some benching would be brilliant, with ample power sockets and network sockets.

 

Get some speakers to stick the radio on as well, always makes an office feel much friendlier and happier if there's some background noise!

 

Big LCD monitor to show the jobs seems a bit indulgent, and might end up displaying information that should be kept private. Better to have a few big whiteboards to write stuff on, sometimes low tech is the best tech.

 

And have a hook by the door that you can hang a cable or a clipboard on, so that as you leave the door you can pick it up to carry with you and look busy

A printer would also definitely be a good addition to your office and a key cabinet for all the keys for certain things. A wall clock also is a nice visual (i know its on the pc/mac !!!) presence. Some A4 wall file slots for things that need to be accessed quickly.

48 Network points for the office, you would be surprised how much kit you can get done with enough points!

Cab for patch panels and fibre switch etc

Paint it a new colour, something bright like a bright red

For each network point have 2 power sockets

Wireless AP for guaranteed wifi in your office

Coffee machine / urn for hot water

Microwave for lunches

PC / Laptop of choice

Others have mentioned network points, I would add more desk space for PC's laptops, desk for the kettle and mini fridge (no joke). Not impressed with that little window though!!!

 

We currently have thought about a screen for jobs/server monitors, grab a little aircon unit for the summer? we also have two whiteboards and 2 pin up boards for information/notes etc.

 

We have some shelves for some basic stuff. Not sure if any of the above helps but thats what we pretty much got.
