University term-time only - you're generally better off sometime between September and Christmas as quality varies somewhat with the workload of the students.

Another vote for John Bishop amongst the current crop. ... and, doesn't count properly but, James Corden. We went to see "One Man, Two Guvnors" at the National Theatre last weekend and laughed until we ached. It's going on tour and is well worth seeing.
CESIL Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 I think the only current comic on the circuit that I don't enjoy is Frankie Boyle...he just seems to be out to shock/offend...after a while that stops being funny to me... ...my real favourites at the moment are Tim Minchin ( very clever and I've met him ) and the coolest dude of all Reginald D Hunter...

Haptic Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 I like Stewart Lee a lot, as well as his old sidekick Richard Herring - As a young lad I'd find myself howling at these two, they had a program on a sunday morning (that if closely inspected probably wouldnt have been allowed so early) show called TMWRNJ - This Morning with Richard Not Judy. It was juvenile but also really satirical and cut with a knife edge. Quality comedy. Joe

Andy Parsons is another one who does my head in, and is not funny in the slightest. Kevin Bridges is not funny either, and is nothing but a racist. Rhod Gilbert is funny, as is that geordie one with the long hair who's name escapes me. John Bishop is seriously funny - best comedian on TV at the moment. 1

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against bad language, it's just that some use it to get the laugh, or just use it for the sake of using it. Love Michael McIntyre too. He seems to be bucking the current trend of just doing paedophile jokes.

The sitcom with Tim Vine and Lee Mack was superb (Not going out). lots of one liners in there that they both obviously have had an input on
sparkeh Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 Went to see Richard Herring on Friday and he was awesome. Was supported by someone else who was brilliant I hadn't heard of before: Chris Ramsey. Both were previews of their Edinburgh shows and both were great. Other's I have enjoyed live: Harry Hill (best when he came on as a surprise guest in a little comedy club in London), Bill Bailey (amazing show at NEC), Jimmy Carr was great, Ed Burne was pretty good. Last week I watched a friend so his first stand up routine. Although he did pretty well, I appreciate how good the professionals are.

Agree with a couple of others - Ross Noble is very funny, but like Milton jones, he has a type of humour not everyone likes/gets. Frankie Boyle does seem to want to offend people which is only funny for so long.
