Canceling TV shows

I gave up watching most new shows when everyone started calling them seasons instead of series.

American TV shows literally do last for entire seasons though. Watching 22 episodes takes over five months! In the UK, we're lucky if we get more than 6 episodes per series.

 

I don't know about anyone else, but when talking about US TV shows I use "season" and for UK TV programmes I use "series". Never the reverse.

Also Misfits is good too.

 

Not sure how this will go with Nathan leaving. He was the best character imho

Fringe has been renewed for another 22 episodes.

 

If there was one show that shouldn't have got cancelled it was Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

 

Terminator was really good, it actually worked as a spin off.

I'm surprised at the love for The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Yes, it had 2 hot ladies but Lena Headey appeared to be playing the part as if SC was supposed to be on some particularly powerful sedatives and JC was kinda annoying.

got to agree watched series 1 and about 2 episodes of series 2 and gave up it just wasnt worth watching

 

Someone mentioned chuck earlier it has got renewed for a 5th series but the last one so far has been ok at best (the last episode had a cliffhanger which may or may not inject a bit more life into it)

 

part of the problem i find is the random times they can be on and esp if you are watching from the status the big mid season breaks i just dont get (both big bang and chuck just stopped for weeks for no apparant (to me)reason) and even something as big as dr who bbc cant keep on the same time every week its infuriating. (stargate and atlantis for instance just seemed to dissapear from tv schedules totally)

But that is even changing a bit now with some of the new productions.

Spartacus was only a dozen-ish episodes.

The Walking Dead was under 10 (although tha may have been due to the MASSIVE budget for each episode)

 

With so many shows competeing for the US production dollar it might just be the studios being a bit less willing to throw cash at them.

Walking Dead First season was really a long pilot at 6 episodes, is has been picked up for a second series of 13 episodes.

BattleStar Galactica Polit was a similar with 3 feature length episodes.

 

I think it was 24 that set the standard for the length of seasons due to its success.

It's my understanding that the big networks generally work on a season of 22-24 eps, normally split into the initial order of 13 or so eps followed by the "back nine" should the show prove popular. If not, it's given the heave-ho and a "midseason replacement" starts with around 13 eps. (Like Season 1 of "Buffy").

 

Cable networks like Starz and AMC (Spartacus/Walking Dead) and HBO generally have shorter seasons as they don't have the same sort of money to throw around.

I personally love no ordinary family, got massive ratings here but dis poor in the US so they scrapped it.

 

Another fav of mine is ncis los Angeles, but no confirmation duke a third series despite big ratings, and fringe as well.

 

At the min I am downloading them all VIA a paid website so I can store them on my media box to watch in the future. Have all series of each so far

Yep I watched season 1 again a couple of months ago, I loved that show.

Like Stargate, NCIS, Walking Dead and the new Hawaii Five O. Don't care much for many other shows.

I remember that! It was brilliant as they always started off somewhere really remote like the African desert or the Siberian tundra. There was another one (also C4 I think) where contestants had to go on the run for a week and at the end of the week there was a live programme, during which they had to stay in a phone box for the hour. Professional trackers used to have to try and find them during the week by guessing where they might head for, tracing their movements through bank cards being used etc.

The shows i am gutted that got cancelled are Flash Forward and Reaper. Don't know if anyone else watched Reaper but it was a funny show and should have kept going.

@LeightonJames - I watch Reaper it was great and a shame that it was canceled, on the positive side the lead actor would never have been able to be in Outsourced (another great show that was canceled this year) if Reaper had not been canned.
