Can anyone please recommend any type of computer game for a student "Games Club"?

Pre-Requisites:

Obviously not any 18+ games,

No 3d acceleration, pretty low spec would be better.

Would need to be multiplayer on our network

If possible no "Console" or anything like that so they can enable GOD MODE etc etc

Free or very cheap !!!

If possible, restrictable and configurable - So they can only play with students in the room, not online

If possible have a "Camera or Spectator" that could highlight players on the projector

Thanks in advance!

You could argue these are too violent though.

There is a cartoony version of quake which may be more acceptable.

- = World of Padman = -

Diablo 2...preferably with the Lord of Destruction Expansion Pack.

Just recently got back into it and I can't believe that I haven't played it in so long. Shame on me. Anyways, it's fairly cheap and if you register it on Bethesda's website you can download the installer and you no longer need the CD to run it.

EDIT: As well as being online or single player, it can run over a LAN. We did this in computer club when I was at school. We dismantled cheap, brand new computers then reassembled them and set up a very basic LAN using static IPs. BTW don't think you actually need static IPs for running the game, just we had no DHCP.

I'll second MineCraft, been playing it for a few months now. Creative is gereat fun, although you may get the little rascal who likes to destroy instead of built.

Does require JAVA and probably 1GB RAM.

Other than that, OpenTTD is a good one. Could be a bit hardcore (well, it's a potentiall complex transport sim). Goes have cheats in single players but over LAN not.

I put Re-Volt on Core 2 Duos at the end of year and had a mini lanfest at lunchtimes :)

It was pretty much the only old enough multiplayer game I could get SLT to agree to, Typing of the Dead and Halo were a no-go ;(

Minecraft

I spent 6 months playing this at home, work, lunchtimes etc.

The all consuming minecraft.. we bought this for dragon jnr's birthday.... she's not had a look in as yet..

(i'll neither confirm or deny it being my fault she hasn't played it yet)

It's an amusing enough game, although the language used is rather colourful, so I do understand why SMT would have said no

You're thinking of ToTD: Overkill which is the typing version of House of The Dead: Overkill, the game which currently holds the record for the most profanity. There's another, older version called simply "Typing Of The Dead" which is based on the House of The Dead 2 game. It's actually been edited to make it tamer compared to the arcade game iirc, the zombies have green blood and I think they've toned down some of the dialogue too. It's also freeware, which makes it doublegood for schools.

ToTD: Overkill is absolutely fantastic, just not appropriate for schools.
