Prohibition does not work at all. People still want to get high. If you ban tobacco, people will just get it off the black market. If they think there is a demand for something (and in the case of drugs, there always is) "Organizations" (gangs) will step in to fulfill that demand. Read up on alcohol prohibition in america and you can see how unsuccessful it is. It's also not really fair to call drugs "toxic" when there are only three drugs more dangerous than alcohol: Heroin, Crack and Crystal Meth. The only way we are ever going to fix this is with regulation, education and understanding.

How many of those copies do you think they sold for full price though? I'd say probably less than 5% (though I am pulling this statistic out of the air), most of the people I know who bought it paid £1 or less, or got it in a humble bundle deal where most of the takings go to charity. Plus you have to factor in things like the distributor and publisher taking their cut, when you take those into account I really don't think the Dennaton guys make a huge amount of money. I'd imagine it's a decent living, but not megabucks.

I reckon this is going to be a bait and switch job: 1. Government suggests proposal which is absolutely unreasonable and seems poorly thought out 2. Public outrage over said proposal 3. Proposal doesn't go through the house of commons because everyone votes against it 4. Government suggests proposal which is still unreasonable but slightly less mad than the one in #1 5. Everyone votes it in happily It happened with the snoopers charter before and it'll happen with this now. Though I guess this is just an extension of the snoopers charter really.

I think this all falls under safe harbour laws doesn't it? Facebook are the same as any other service provider, in that regard. Lets say you run a VPS service and someone is using your service to run a website with extremely illegal content. You never set the site up, you had no knowledge of what the user was doing and the user signed an EULA to say they'd use the service responsibly. Assuming nobody ever reports this to you, are you then responsible for the actions of the user? Or for a non-electronic example: Somebody rents a safe deposit box from a bank and uses it to store illegal contraband. Assuming nobody ever reports this to the bank, are they responsible for the contents of the box?

Why doesn't Bob Geldoff write a new song and then get loads of artists to collaborate on that instead? I get that it's for a good cause and all, but it just seems a bit lazy to me. Or is this now going to become like an annual thing at Christmas? We get the x-factor single and the new version of "Do They Know It's Christmas?" debuts on the live show. Profits all go to whatever cause is going to further the collaborating artists' careers the most.

Or the one where the lead singer learned how to be a stunt driver and then did this: They are pretty much the only band who produce music videos which are actually worth watching.
