Electronic Sign In System

Does anyone use an electronic sign in system for staff?

I'm thinking of getting one for reception. And when staff come in on a morning they just click / touch there name on the screen and it logs them in. Doesn't need to log time etc/ Just wether they are in school or not.

The high school i help out have introduced a fingerprint system where you walk through the door, stick your thumb onto the scanner and it logs the time you came in/left whatever.

 

From what i understand they need a computer somewhere for the hardware to interface with and upload sign in/out details etc.

 

I will ask this friday when i go in for more details and post back if youd like.

Probably but at the end of the day it shouldn't lots of people at work everyday have to clock in/out otherwise they don't get paid.

Thats true. We don't need to record times, just log in school or not. We just tick on a piece of paper at the moment.

which brand of system is this? i looked into the videx one. The worry my head had was that it wouldnt be as quick as stated and wanted to see a system in place locally

yes we use a paper based system for this.

You could do this with a paxton door access system - just use the sign in/out part only. You'd need to have RFID cards for all staff though. So all they do is swipe their card at that particular (or those, if you have more than one entrance) rfid reader and that's it. You wouldn't have to have it hooked up to doors etc...

We use a system called Inventry. Staff have cards with barcodes on they swipe and it keeps a list of staff on/off site. No complaints/unions involved, everyone has been cool about it.

Its also used for visitors and prints photo badges.

My old school used the cunninghams biostore one - saying it would be linked to sims etc for sixthform entry - they are about to send it back to Cunninghams.

We have inventry for Visitors

 

We have Paxton Net2 for staff and 6fm..

 

after 20 months neither could be termed reliable if required for a fire register.

Our Site Manager uses this for his cleaning staff, BioTime: the advantages of biometric time attendance for those that didn't want to record their fingerprints or it didn't work they were given a PIN number for signing in and out.

 

I think it was around £500 to purchase.

 

Up to now it works well and helps him put together the time sheets of his staff.

We where sold it having previously used it in V1 - dual finger scanners etc.

 

When they installed it - we got V2 which at the time didn't have support for 2 scanners. Also on the premise it would write back to sims in the couple of months after it was installed. nearly 2 years later it will now write back to sims but everytime we chased cunninghams or biostore nothing happened.

 

As of 4 weeks ago when i last spoke to teh school it still didn't write back to sims.

You could make one....

 

Get a touch screen for hundred quids or so and mount it. For the backend use some PHP to pull a list a current staff from the ad, format each staff name into a big touch friendly button. On click (touch) it sends a hidden form back to PHP with the staff member's name, this is then sent to the database, if in the database the user is already "onsite" it sets them to "off site" otherwise it sets them to onsite, therefore if they are signing in it will set them as "on site" if they are already signed in, and hence signing OUT, it will set them as "off site" make a report page in the event of a fire that pulls out all users with "on site" and there is your register. There will be more to it than that, I would probably change the colour of the buttons so when the list is presented to the staff it shows a green button to sign in and a red one to sign out or something and various tweaks such as a "oops I hit the wrong button" function just in case someone fat fingers it and signs someone else in by accident. Saves a thousand pound, you get a system you understand rather than some offsite support and you can hack it about to make it perfect rather than relying on someone like cunninghams to do it for you (if they ever do).

We have a full 32 point biometric registration system - it writes to sims for students but the unit in reception logs in and out staff. It interfaces with the fire alarm and prints out who is here/not here if the fire alarm goes.

Had a swipe-in system at my last school. Worked well for signing staff and kids in and was used for room access control and printing out class lists etc for fire-drills. Only problem is no one swiped out when they left so the system became useless for keeping track of who was at school.
