tazz Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Hi all I currently bank with Nat west and I love the Internet banking as it is always up to date with my transactions so I find it easy to manage my money. My Hubby is with Smile (Co-op) and the transactions online are often 4-7 days behind! He can't bank with Nat West due to old debt issues so is trying to find another bank or building soiciety that also has a good and "prompt" Internet banking service. Has anyone got any recommendations? Thanx Tazz
kmount Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 I've had nothing but good experiences with Nationwide's. 1
CSNM-Carl Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 HSBC's is pretty good, but I much prefer Natwest.
FN-GM Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 I have 2 accouts with the Natwest to the HSBC. The internet banking on both is equal. The HSBC is a better bank

glennda Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 I use HSBC - no complaints with it they also have a secure software that they try and make you install on a windows machine (but i don't use windows so wouldn't know if its any good) Toby
synaesthesia Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Always liked Lloyds internet banking but the bank themselves are morons. Co-op internet banking is very basic and yeah, slow but they can't be beaten for outright decent service by any other bank in the country
steve Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 firstdirect - they have been doing online banking longer than most and its pretty good. Also have UK call centre
tom_newton Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 HSBC: Good, Barclays: Getting better but p--- poor, First Direct: Heard numerous independant good things
witch Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Intelligent Finance is a good one - never had any problems - you can have current and savings accounts for one or more people in the same 'pot'. You can have multiple savings accounts (it is one really, but you can call different bits different things - eg I have one called 'holiday', 'new car' etc which keeps things all separate.) we have an offset mortgage too but i dont think they do those any more. IF is based in Scotland and they have always been helpful and fast
elsiegee40 Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 We use Barclays and ING without any difficulties.
jedmondson Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Alliance & Leicester 's on line banking works on ubuntu !
srochford Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 I bank with Smile - what transactions are you finding are not up to date? I can't say I've ever noticed and they were also one of the first banks to move to fast transfers which is a big plus. I also like the fact that if you do have to call them you speak to someone who knows what they're doing and can actually help!
laserblazer Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Ours is NatWest and it seems fine. I'm having issues with my card reader though that they haven't been able to sort yet.
RabbieBurns Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Natwest have somehow lost me a substantial amount of money in a transfer trom a UK account to an AU account.. and neither end of the world knows where it is!

I also like the fact that if you do have to call them you speak to someone who knows what they're doing and can actually help! For example, I had 2 debit card transactions on Thursday 8th April, and they have only appeared yesterday, with yesterday's date. I do agree over the phone they a good though.

IF is based in Scotland and they have always been helpful and fast IF are now only offering savings accounts to new customers, so no new current accounts or mortgages. They changed things after the banking collapse and Halifax (their parent company) merging with Lloyds.
K.C.Leblanc Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Always liked Lloyds internet banking but the bank themselves are morons. This, although Lloyds bank are better then their Credit Card people. When I tranfer money from my LTSB current account to my Virgin credit card it goes through as a quick transfer and the money is with Virgin the next day, when I transfer money from the LTSB current account to the LTSB credit card it takes 4 days.
rad Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 I have two accounts, one with Barclays, the other First Direct. The Barclays I find a pain to log in to as you need your card and a stupic card reader to enter a PIN into. If I want to quickly check something, I can't. I have to wait till i go home to log in to it. As for FD which is my main account, can't fault them. Online is as easy as pie. It works, you can link other things to it, like ISA's and saving accounts, if you call them (thanks saynoto0870.com) I have a landline number and the phone gets answered straight away to a UK call centre. Always happy to help even when I just want to query something. I have both accounts linked to an ING account, again is easy to use. For me FD is brilliant, and if I need cash, I go to HSBC anyway.
Batman Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Alliance & Leicester 's on line banking works on ubuntu ! If it's web based they all should. I've used Nationwide for years with Ubuntu. Lloyds also works fine.

Although HSBC's keeps asking you to install the security software which doesn't work as its for windows or mac! only downside to there online banking
CSNM-Carl Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Has anyone used RBS online banking? Yep, it's the same as Natwests. If you can't open an account with Natwest, you won't be able to open 1 with RBS. 1
