Another vote for HSBC! I find the site to be quite powerful

IF are now only offering savings accounts to new customers, so no new current accounts or mortgages. They changed things after the banking collapse and Halifax (their parent company) merging with Lloyds.

We use First Direct, and it's bang on. Then again I was Lloyds for 8 years, so anything is better!

 

Seriously though, the First Direct web banking is spot on.

I have a smilemore account, very good service...was with hsbc but if I went the slighteset bit overdrawn they would slap a £25 minimum charge without notifying me or early warning. smile is £500 and no charges

 

I only find bank transfers take time if coming to or from a natwest account - ie. my housemates... otherwise smile <--> hsbc is instant.

 

I like the fact that they dont hide all the information in hard to find places and are easy to speak to on the phone (in my experience)

 

card reader is a pain though, but I guess they are all heading that way now.
