[ms office - 2007] Help GUys Gals!!!!! HeLP

Right Heres what is up. I have a Corrupt Word File that has been recoved off a memory key. I can not repair it using open office or Word. I can open it in trusty notepad but it is just jargon. is there anyway I can convert that back to word.

 

PLEASE HELP ITS MY FIANCEES ASSIGNMENT!.

 

I will attach the file and the notepad jargon that i get if that is any help! please help me :-) thanks

I have just tried opening them and yeah they are corrupt, erm.. can you get to the source? as it says it could try and recover it if it could access that?

 

failing that y'know fella i dont think there is anything out there that could get it back.. but will have a google around see if i can find anything that could be of use..

 

I'll cross my fingers for you just incase anyone else has something

I've tried to recover this using some office recovery software but have hit a brick wall.

Closest I got was a 1K .RTF file.

 

Also tried the DD2TXT but its stating there is no text to recover.....

Thanks for all your help! :-) I have tried the links above with no joy either last night. Wounder if there is anything else out there. Is does not matter if the formatting is gone. It is just the text that we need back.

Have you tried copying the file in question to an easy location like the desktop or something and then fired up word and clicked file open and then on the drop down box under the file name you have an option that is recover text from any file, if you click that and then open the corrupted word document in question it might produce a load of rubbish but at the same time, it might recover all the text any how its worth a try!

Started a thread like this myself a while back main things that came from it were:

 

try to open it in open office

try to open the file in an ie browser

make sure you are opening it in the correct version of office

if it was made in 2003, try open in 2007 (worked on one of my files)

 

other than that download.com have a few one off free programs but can only recover one file!

 

i'm currently looking for one to buy so if I get it shortly ill pm you and try recover the file with the new software!

docx files are XML files zipped up, by renaming .zip you could try repairing the zip and see what files remain?

I dont think a 32kb file would contain much text in the first place?

 

I just made a 1 page 300 word .docx with a title, a bit of bold text and a bit of italic text, and it was 20kb

I've also tried recovering the file with no avail.

 

Won't help in this situation but I would highly recommend this application:

Was a dream when I was at uni, and always coming and going. Meant I had numerous copies of the same file as backups (I had it set to sync with work, home, and uni, so I always had four copies of the latest version of each file.)

 

The amount of times that app saved my life is untrue.

This is an old hat solution that seems to work with some corrupt docs, open it within Open office, and then try and save is as a new file.

 

This works with a lot of so called corrupted docs.

docx files files are really zip containers containing xml files

 

You should be able to open the docx file with zip program. I am not sure whether you have to change the extension from docx to zip. Just try to open the docx file first with zip. If that doesn't work, then change the extension to zip. You should then be able to get to all the parts of your document.

i have recovered some files that would not work in word

 

sounds daft but it worked.

 

have you checked for hidden temp files that office creates on her computer?
