Hope you told your insurance company about those James

Anything to get out of paying out eh?

A mate of mine had a Fiesta when we were 17, nothing special by any means, but he had put a load of stickers/graphics all over the sides. Some of these designs were considered as advertising when he had an accident, and hence the car was obviously being used for business purposes (which it wasn't). Not only did they not pay out on the claim, but he got done with having something like unrepresentative insurance. I can't remember the exact term, it wasn't no insurance, but the penalties were exactly the same.

Glad to hear your all right though James, road collisions are never a nice thing.

The police aren't psychic, you actually have to call them to let them know a crash has happened? Or just rely on someone else to do it for you...

No Offence to the injured party, just the anti police loons who always jump on the wagon to slate the force that keeps our country in order...

On a seperate note, Emergency Services didn't care one bit! asked if i was okay and asked if i knew any details of the other cars (yeah like i am going to take note of there registration when i'm nealy at deaths door) so they just tell me to secure my car and report it to my local police station with 24hours.

certainly sounds like he made the effort to contact them and they weren't interested.

Thats the kind of thing the courts get extremely snitty about: because its blatantly trying to get out of the contract of insurance. Of course when your 17 you don't feel up to kicking the insurance company in court. I heard of a similar one where they claimed the car was not properly insured as its was modified. Of course how the forth owner was supposed to know the original spec out of the factory was for steel wheels as opposed to alloy was not clear. The courts read the company the riot act.

It sounds like he rang the emergency service, said he wasn't injured, so the police therefore don't blue light out - they only do to injured parties. You should report crashes seperately to the police station for non injured parties. They respond to take a survey of damaged roadside furniture.

And on a side note, this is why I started driving a huge Pajero 4x4.

(I had to stop as I can't afford 24MPG)

Because when the idiot(s) comes toward you there is a very large chance they will loose very very badly in the resulting collision. Not something I would loose any sleep over, nor would it stop me suing the creep estate for restitution to my scratched paint! :evil_twisted:

Part of the problem is a vast increase in cars, increase in the power of said cars and a huge reduction in social care. Its not universal, and its not just the young nor is it new. But the combination seems to be making for a very dangerous set of roads. (so much for new driving tests btw)

So yes I try to drive well, I absolutely do not speed in residential, I would try hard to avoid an accident - but faced with two cars side by side, lights off and head-on, I would aim for the middle. In a large car with the 17% factor in my favor - the statistics for accidents are I will get less damage than trying to doge an taking spin or side impact. If that means they wind up in a coffin for their stupidity - well it means no repetitive faults doesn't it.

Darwin has it right.

Get another 306, they're great! I'm on my fifth!

Agreed! Our 2001 Pug 306 Estate is still going strong with 150,000 miles under it's belt! Looks like you are lucky, your car is a bit of a mess, must of been one hell of a shunt!

P.S. if anyone wants a Pug 306 V Reg 1999 they can happily come and take it :) i suppose it is still usefull for parts.

This may be tongue in cheek but if not then I assume the insurance company will want it, or at least want to look at it.

Glad to hear you are OK! That is a right mess there. :(

How can they refuse to cover you if it wasn't your fault though?

That's the metallic, won't cut deep enough. Regular T-Cut should sort it ;)

Glad you're okay. Shame on the car, I love my 306 and it's a hoot to drive, despite being very old and being a 1.9 non-turbo diesel!

Glad you're OK James... look on the bright side... you can get a better car now ;)

Lol that's exactly what i said to him last night. I'll help you look for another car if you like.

I had something similar earlier this year. Driving home from the now wife's house over a notorious road near us both (only notorious for idiots driving to be fair, you drive well it's fine) but this :censored: went to overtake me at speed in the wet on a bend .. being such a stupid :censored: they didn't pull out far enough and technically pitted me (shoved my back drivers side) which sent me into a spin and I end up backwards in a tree at around 50mph .. car totalled ..

The :censored: didn't stop so the police duly turned up at the scene, breathalysed me and (I find out a week later) mark it as a RTA - damage only .. not a fecking hit and run .. I filed a complaint but have I heard anything back, have I :censored: .. that was back in June ..

Eventually the insurance settled up after offering £1500 less than they eventually paid out (take it from me, do your research if they're writing it off .. make sure you find all the info you can and e-mail it through to them on like for like cars - it's worth it!) ..

Meanwhile, I'm still left with a twingey back every now and then and it's 6 months on .. but I have a rather nice convertible now instead .. lol ..

Feel your pain though mate .. it's :censored: like that on the road that make our insurance premiums so high in the first place .. and the sad thing is they will of known exactly what they were doing as it would of been a dare to prove who has the smaller .... that's if you are able to measure who's is smaller as if you ask me, people who drive like that ARE compensating! lol ..

I suspect the problem will be proving that it wasn't his fault - the insurance company will take a default permission that it was his fault.

I'm guessing there might be evidence on the road that another driver was involved but it may not be enough to prove that they caused it. Given that, and given that there is no knowledge of the other drivers, the insurance company will just say "must have been your fault; tough"

I hate insurance companies; I've had very few claims over the years but it's always hard work dealing with them and I always feel I'm being ripped off every time I renew.

Oops .. I obviously read over the bit about not being covered ..

When I had my smash, I just told the story as it was and they believed me .. still had to pay an excess, but it wasn't the full one as it went down as a non-fault but they still have to recover their costs ..

Might be worth questioning that with them ..

A few pics of my car.. see if you can guess where the tree stopped it.. lol.. Worst part being, I had a stage piano and my MacBook in the boot! Thankfully the flightcase did it's job there though and the MacBook was just lucky!

Are you going to claim for it...

I wrote a car off in my teens and after working out how much it was actually worth minus my excess, decided to give the car away/keep it for spares and not claim.

Worked out cheaper in the long run as I didn't have a claim against me, to increase my premiums for the next 5 years.
