  2. Sounds like its def time for 1) the WEEKEND! and 2) hugs
  3. Good Morning folks: Kettering Science Academy - Vacancy - Vacancies You need to download the information and apply. PM me if you have any questions; and YES I am the Network Manager of aforesaid school, I am looking for somebody with solid educational knowledge. I have managed to negotiate reasonable package for this role: but I am not going to beat about the bush here, it’s a demanding role with the need to keep rotten old kit running until July 2012. I won’t be looking at your Edugeek posts before interview, but if you wish to keep your ident private – contact the school directly. I am happy to answer questions directly here. I am also looking to move VERY rapidly on this, so don’t hang about if you’re going to apply. Regards MPO Kettering Science Academy Deeble Road Kettering Northamptonshire NN15 7AA Tel: 01536 532700 Fax: 01536 532709
  4. Thats normal for the USofA; they think International means 'Yanks overseas'
  5. Yes it is - if the effect is that an entire sub-group of staff then become the subject of oppertunistic accountancy then that is hardly the fault of the teaching unions. It won' help the situation at all if a them & us enviroment aises. However that should not mean they ignore the matter. A better and more uniform union for support staff would help both the support staff & employers. And heck of a lot less politics of course
  6. The only real way forward given Smart phones, PDA's & Laptops is to switch from 'Nanny-mode' and over to open-forum with the teaching staff directly responsible for management & education. They need to know 'How' not 'Why-Not'. For those that worked under me at Sunny Duston, yes I have changed my viewpoint on this - because I was already aware that the task of restriction & control was essentially the same as the task of Sisyphus. The Parents are going to have to also take responsibility for the fact they have supplied such devices to the children. They cannot have it both ways; either they accept they have enabled their children to expose themselves to the full bright light of the Internet & social networking or they remove such devices. The former is unavoidable and the way of modern life, the latter I would meet with a suggestion they move to the US and join the Amish society.
  7. I have a letter................... :D (pending final approval - I love schools, the paperwork starts instantly )
  8. Yes: thats is good, and much power to them BUT Are they properly covered by the Insurance? Where do they stand in the event of a problem? Given that they are in all probability paid rather less - is that fair to them for the work, or to teachers who have pay deals undermined. Do they have ALL the training they should have? Clearly it is not a clear-cut issue, but given the potential moves to the use of instructors and commercial trainers to widen the base of learning for students; these issue have to be sorted out accross the country. If its done well - great - but if it isn't, and I belive in most cases that will be the reality, it will blowup in the relevant schools face. There is a nasty habit in the country of doing something on the fly and only dealing with it after the inevitable enquiry.
  9. The suspence is killing me - argh! - I mean I can't concentrate on playing Homeworld at all : I mean the housework
  10. Had the Interview - and now the wait for the result It was a good interview and I def like the way they do it. Looks like they want to take a rather unusal route to system security/monitoring - moving over to student responsibility & education of use. For instance opening YouTube up to site - Brave Lads I feel, but they seem happy to have the onus on the teachers to mind the matter.
  11. Yes, we spent all the spare time talking 'geek' and generally being very friendly - it was very strange given we were going for a role at the place. I think that it improved the process though, we were kinda interviewing each other and thinking about the role - which in the end would benifit the interviewing school because the candidates have focused jointly on the roles needs. Self-interviewing candidates - now there is a concept for the 21st century
  12. We did indeed, it was a very pleasent process - would all interviews be so (and I can say that because I did after the last one ) The new boss looks like a change from the more tradtional 'pure' academic, with real world managment knowlage in the hotel biz, since I also came from commercial to education I have hopes that we would have matching ideas on how support systems should work & delivered. I guess I will find out soon, the interviews are tommorow. Having spent the last year renovating a house and running an eBay shop - it would be nice to get back in the daily grind. Was I correct in reading AXE has found somthing now? I hope thats working out well. Regards & thanks for the best wishes
  13. I have had email saying it was being processed &the times for the Interview - time to dust off the suit, spruce up & look depressed at how much grey/white hair was hidden under the top layers of my bonce
  14. Anybody else off to interview for this? Its my 2nd shot at it - They must be gluttons for punishment to have me back
