BJC Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Still snowing quite a bit and sticking. I wouldn't be surprised if the school shuts early today if it continues. I can hear the Students going crazy as they go to there first lesson.
Martin Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Watch the snow (precipitation) arriving, almost live! See Meteox.com - Weather - European rainfall radar, for the radar (and satellite) images from up to only half an hour ago mb 2
solitaire89 Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Well it's well and truely snowing here now! The official line is that if a parent phones in, they are allowed to collect their child now/the child is allowed to go (obviously the kids don't know this!). I have called my Mother, and she's phoning the school in a few mins! :D:D 1

leco Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Still snowing here as it has been since early hours and looks like it'll continue for some time (MetCheck site clouds firmly over my region) School is open but the teachers keep checking conditions.
solitaire89 Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Yes make sure the kids dont find out ours did a few years ago and it was chaos! I think the official line came into being because so many parents had already called, and then other kids started phoning their parents! We've not got that many kids, and they're all good Can you ask her to ring my school as well please Certainly, anyone who wants my Mother to ring their school please send me your school's phone number!!!!!! Service is offered at a minimal charge of one G&T per call
laserblazer Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Where are you solitaire89? It's pretty heavy in Droitwich now but no plan to close the school.
jamin100 Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Its just started here in Birmingham.. Very Light at the moment!
sonic1485 Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Snow in Aston now and it's sticking... but I'm still here grrrr!!
BJC Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Still Snowing here. Quite thick on the ground but so far no decision on closing.
LosOjos Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 It's getting quite heavy here in Sandwell, fingers crossed I'll be home for lunch!
sidewinder Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Not snowing till later here, first day of term tomorrow. Extra day off? who knows
laserblazer Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Decision being made at 10:30. The taxi firms have been calling to ask if we want kids collecting as the other schools in the area are closing.
solitaire89 Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 (edited) Where are you solitaire89? It's pretty heavy in Droitwich now but no plan to close the school. Kidderminster-ish way... It's pretty much stopped now, but what fell has stuck - it's about 2" by the front gates. They've not shut us, even though half the kids have gone, and cars can't get up the road outside the school!!! EDIT: Spoke to soon - message through the txt system just arrived; we're closing at 1 Edited January 5, 2010 by solitaire89 Plans change!!
LosOjos Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 They've not shut us, even though half the kids have gone, and cars can't get up the road outside the school!!! That's a bit harsh! Wheelspin by the gate for a bit to prove a point
solitaire89 Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 That's a bit harsh! Wheelspin by the gate for a bit to prove a point Would do, but I don't have a car I don't think I can wheel spin on foot Hoping it's not to bad underfoot to get home (see edited post above!)
elsiegee40 Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 I, the bursar, the caretaker and our marketing manager have been out gritting our entire site this morning in the hope of ensuring we are able to open for the start of term tomorrow. (Current temperature -4.1oC according to the Science weather station) We're not expecting any significant snow here, but our site is on a hill and the paths had all the grip of the Cresta Run. Sheet ice, not good!
Michael Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 It's really snowing in Birmingham today as I write this. And it's sticking to the roads and cars!
sonic1485 Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 The kids are having registration at 11 and then we will be off for the day wooohooo!!!
EvLPhenom Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 We've had a good bit of snow here in Sutton Coldfield but we are still open.
browolf Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 snowing like mad on the north west coast. being a tuesday, kids already get to leave at 2.10pm here's hoping they'll decide the staff can too, or cancel school even earlier!
Tcsltd Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Snowing like mad in Leyland...but still in work...having a bacon butty so not all bad!
ChrisH Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 Well I tried to get to work this morning at 7 am. I got onto the main road, which is usually the difficult bit only to find that was even worse. I got a whole 30 metres before I was defeated by a slight incline. Parked up and made a phone call to see what was what and sure enough school closed. Not always a good thing to aim to get there early
