Last year we had issues with the oldest desktops in our fleet (Optiplex 780's) running LTSB crashing whenever Teams video calls were made (audio only was fine). All available drivers were up to date and tried disabling GPU hardware acceleration etc. Never found the true cause for this but an upgrade to LTSC sorted it out

For us we re-image but then as part of the rebuild use the Dell Command Utility to get the latest updates and then uninstall it before they laptops go out to staff. I've run the tool to remove the file on a couple of machines this morning and although they no longer have the DCU on them, they still have dbutil_2_3.sys

Our Library has requested digital copies of a book this year which will be needed by the majority of students. The publisher has said they are happy for us to order it in a digital format so long as we add protection to it to stop it from being printed / saved / screenshot etc. I have found a couple of solutions that do what we need however they are very restricted with how many copies you can make unless a premium version of the product is purchased. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any good solutions that would allow us to do what we need?

Yup! We boosted them from 2GB to 3 and they are fine again. It’s odd because they were fine on Anniversary but the upgrade the Creators Spring seemed to knock them. We had the thought after that they may have had a 32bit image before whereas now they are 64

We are having an odd issue with some machines with our new deployment of Windows 10 that we did over the summer. For some bonkers reason when the users click "Switch User" they actually sign off which has been causing some issues with shared classrooms. It's not all machine but they were all deployed with the same build. There have been no policy changes either so nothing should have changed since before the summer. Google doesn't appear to have seen this issue before from what I can see, I just wondered if anyone here had ever seen the oddities?

Morning all. I have been asked to look in to deploying a corporate screensaver to our classrooms, essentially turning them in to digital signage. I have seen paid for solutions such as: https://www.alert-software.com/corporate-screensaver https://www.snapcomms.com/products/corporate-screensaver https://www.netpresenter.com/corporate-screensaver/ but what with budgets being... ya know... not there, we would ideally like a managed solution which points to a single screensaver which then displays on idle desktops. I have half a solution using Group Policies but the screensaver only becomes active for idle, logged in sessions. Ideally we would like this to come on when users are logged off too. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any free solutions or an alternative way you have gone about doing this with Windows 10 machines?

Hi I was wondering if anyone would be able to provide any help with this issue. When any of our users click on My Files now they are greeted with a 10 or so error warnings which gradually disappear saying that "The given key was not present in the directory". I have looked into this for a bit today and have made sure the hapconfig.xml has uppercase drive letters which I have seen as a possible cause for the problem in other threads. I am not quite sure what else I could look at. Any help would be greatly appreciated

We have had this with one of our machines. I couldn't figure out the problem and ended up clearing the profile and getting them to log in and create a fresh one and it hasn't happened since. Would this point to a configuration in appdata? Sorry I can't be more help. The only other oddity about this particular machine we had the problem with was that it was dual booting with Windows 7 so that the Head of Computing could test our Win 10 build and revert to Win 7 if they had any problems mid lesson.

Sorry to raise an old thread. We are renewing our antivirus and are currently looking at our options and have been having a chat in the office about different solutions including Windows Defender. I was just wondering how people are finding it in 2017? My understanding of it was that it slowed down older hardware running Windows 10 so we have it turned off via Group Policy and currently use Sophos.

I have done a similar thing over the holiday except using xcopy and not taking the timestamps across. xcopy \\server1\studentarea \\server2\studentarea /O /X /E /G /K /C This will copy all files and subfolders, ignore encrypted files and continue copying if it encounters an error

We are having problems with Windows 10 machines and deployed printers too. I will look through the logs next time it gets reported to see if we see anything similar

+1 for Altaro. Free for 2 VMs and it is so easy to configure and has saved us a couple of times when we had to restore machines

I've been asked to investigate alternative solutions for our postage system. Our franking machine is on the way out but our finance team were intending to look for a different supplier in the coming months anyways. It's all a bit above my head - I'm not sure what we are paying at the moment as we (the IT department) haven't been consulted on it in the past but I was given a rough figure. I was just wondering what companies other schools are using and if possible what sort of monthly/annual prices you pay and what is included in the cost?

Our finance team seem okay with the product, although there were many headaches (literal and metaphorical!) during the early months of implementation. I can echo previous posts and say that problems can just suddenly happen out of the blue for no apparent reason and support can also be a bit hit and miss with their response times. We also have no IT staff as a named contact for support which, to be fair to PSF, is probably why I cry a little inside when finance call to tell us about an issue

Silent Install Builder Just wondered if anybody had seen or used this software and had any opinions of it? It seems like a nice, quick and easy way to build a custom installer packages which can be deployed to machines on the network.

Works like a dream on our network. That's one less Windows 10 headache!

Our teaching staff log in with Gmail and the sessiosn seems to last from until another member of staff signs in from what I understand

We purchased this software around Easter time and it has been great for our Windows 7 clients... Sadly not so great for the Windows 10 machines we have rolled out during the summer. The support have sent us a manual fix for this but if anybody finds a way to automate the process or hears of any software updates on the horizon that support Windows 10 I'd love hear about them
