Absolutely - but 'peace and quiet' doesn't mean weeks and weeks of media coverage. The media is a world apart from 'fans' mourning what they consider a great loss. I dont have problem with people that are morning just the fact it is everywhere. The intolerance of some is unbelievable. The man has only been dead 48hrs or so - what do you actually expect the media to be doing? Reporting on stolen ducks from a village pond? Look, you can all say what you want about jacko - but, he always slowed down when going past schools. Will you be jumping on the Farrah Fawcett bandwagon too? witch Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 I have not got a problem with people feeling sad about Michael Jackson, and as someone who REALLY grew up to his music (and you have to be at least 45 to say that, I reckon), I shall be sorry that such a good musician lost it all - for whatever reason. What I don't appreciate is people going on about what a 'genius' he was, and how he will never be forgotten - what, like Shakespeare or Da Vinci? I know that the media will be full of stories about him for the next couple of weeks - what I fear is that it will go on and on and on. Maybe it is because I am English but I am really uncomfortable with this wailing and moaning and gnashing of teeth that some of the so-called fans are demonstrating - what will these people do if someone really close to them dies? You cannot truly mourn someone you didn't know.

Maybe it is time that people realised that it is ok to be sad about someone's death - even if they weren't a close relative or a friend. Emotions are ok you know...
torledo Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 on newsnight the other day, one of the commentators said that it was almost as if wacko had really died in the early 90's, and all we've had since is remnants of the performer he once was.... i'm just not a particular fan of his solo work, it's undoubted he was icon of the 80's, and some of his stuff was listenable....but that's about it. I find it far more interesting the jackson five era, and the child superstar. That's when he was at his peak.....it went downhill from there. So why anyone should care very much about a 50-year old kidult millionaire who spent money like a billionaire is beyond me.
