FREE to a good home

Over the next couple of weeks we will have at least 15 x 15" CRT monitors that require a good home.

 

They are in good working order, some are RM most are Belinea, and are in use as I type this.

 

I have absolutely no-where to store them as we are replacing them with TFTs.

 

If you are interested and able to collect them then PM me. They should be available at the end of July, possibly sooner if we get a chance.

Some of these second user companies like First Technologies may take them off your hands and give you some credit. It beats paying for them to be disposed. Would depend on your location though I suppose.

Most charities will not take them either without a decent workstation to go with each one.

how much do they charge been looking into getting rid of a load of old ICT equipment.

Well a quote last year from a company recommended by our LEA was around £450 for 20 Base units and monitors.

 

In the end I paid about £150 for a charity to take 30 away (The name escapes me at the mo - I'll dig out the url tomorrow).

if they are in working order then why not get in touch with a recyling centre that shipps them off to the developing countries!

you need to pay for a hazourdous waste lisence from the local recycling place i think ours £22.50

 

then you can take as many as you want to them then!

weee has come into force earlier on this year (march i think) so your actually only allowed to get rid of 2 tonnes i think! (but don't hold me to that)

Free, free as the wind. They might charge for seriously crap stuff but you can give them a tinkle first to check.

Anyone up in Yorkshire / Lancashire /Hull area, I have a contact at a charity group based in Hull who will take hardware and re-set it up and distribute it out in Africa.

 

He does make a small charge per machine, based on machine numbers and if its a long journey, large van needed for hire etc, but if your interested I can send you his details and you can make contact with him and make arrangements for yourself.

We useacompany called PCB although i cant find a website for them.

They took everything for free and we are in leicester. The guy that collected them said he went to Dorset before so i assume they quite versatile as far as distances are concearned.

i use a company in staffs thats called polar computers that passes them to the needy in and out of the country. has to be working stuff thou.

Apart from the Monitors most of the kit is only suitable for spares.

 

I'm just trying to avoid a £700 bill to have them recycled

Just had another idea It may seem daft but what about asking the school PTA if they want any to sell for a small amount to raise funds for the school or letting the kids have some.

You would have to get some paper work with them to say sold as seen and no guarantees . (and don't come back if it goes wrong !!!)

Or is there some pit falls with that ?.

 

The one's we use are from a local firm. Free, serviced and the full kit.

 

Charities need good hand outs.

 

I have even ask about old computers at our local tip, but the man tells me that they sell them ( beer money ?) on to traders who do them up but he was willing to give some to our charity if we wanted any.

We have sold some to staff already under the guise of buy a 15" monitor for £5 and get a PC free

 

Apart from the monitors the rest is more or less a pile of spare parts. I already have another stack of about 30 PCs put to one side for emergencies etc but I have no space for the rest. We could break them all down and make a few decent PCs ourselves but we can't justify the manhours it would take to do this just to have them put back in storage.

 

I have a list of charities and recyclers I could use, but if another school could use them then that is the preference.

 

(btw I also have some old hubs if anyone is interested )

Just as an aside - I use freecycle all the time, and it is great - on ours we get people requesting old computers, monitors etc for the disbled or suchlike.

I am going to split our old machines (not literally) between the guy on freecycle who refurbishes machines for the disabled, and Dorset Reclaim who refurbish and sell cheaply to the disadvantaged
