They seem to be giving up now. Couple of schools in the county where I lived closed this week but a third did not: "However, the school has opted to stay open on the advice of the Health Protection Unit. "

Weeks paid leave for teaching and kids... support staff must come in as normal

You ought to say something about fair treatment and equality among the employee's. That kind of attitude is elitist and targeted and isn't accepted under any law. Apart from contract albeit.

If teachers, students are off because of possible Swine Flu'ness, than the whole school should be.

I'd scream victimization!

BBC post a helpful guide! Feel the science.

BBC NEWS | Health | Q&A: Advice about swine flu

Slide four on there is also pretty good...

I may be wrong, but I thought Birmingham schools were no longer being closed for minor outbreaks because it's now so prevalent, containment isn't a feasible option any more? That was a couple of weeks ago though, might have changed since.

didn't a nine year old recently die of swine flu related symptoms?

yes but she had underlying health issues as well... of course the media had to hype it up as a swine flu death tho

It is a terrible chart, though. I mean, that chicken is enormous!

it could be a small boy, and a small pig, therefore normal sized chicken =D

Also, by the looks of it a human can only give it to three humans, so as long as we have 4 friends, you know one of them will be fine.

I'm more interested in those that are getting better - but no word on them so far (presumably because hyping the infection is more news-worthy than re-assuring folks who worry that people are getting better!)

Anyone read Stephen King's "The Stand" or seen the film of it? ;)

Just had our first confirmed case, a year 5. No notices up yet, but they will come. I've got this on my wall. :D

My daughter was diagnosed with it this morning,

got her tablets and I got some too because I am at risk apparently because of having bad asthma...

joy and happiness

all the jokes stop being funny when you get the tablets in your hand and its your kid.

She was dreadful on Sunday night and Monday morning but now has aches and pains and a slight temperature - taking great delight at oinking at everyone.

Glad she's getting over it Bloxy. We have a p/t teacher and her daughter with it and the Asst. Head had to be driven home this morning he was so bad. Don't know if it was SF yet.

Cheers Laserblazer. She'll be fine, just a bit of a shock after laughing about it and stuff. Hope the teachers are ok at your place

If you plan to get it (and you're not pregnant) now might be a good time. You'd be over the worst by the time we break up and it might be more virulent in the winter!

Were dropping X amount a day now, they wont even administer Tamiflu :(

They only give tamiflu to those with symptoms now, as containment has not worked. Giving tamiful without symptoms is a bad idea, as it can lead to you becoming resistant to it, and the flu being able to survive anyway.

This is a terrible idea, its like encouraging a virus to spread! Surely the more it multiplies the more chance it has to mutate to a more aggressive form. By at least taking precautions you are not gonna be helping the mutation process!
