Well lets face it, we IT people aren't the healthiest of people what with the dust, and the office chair's etc etc etc!!! Lets put it this way, theres guna be a shortage of IT staff when this blows over and a lot of work for the remaining few! Or am I just thinking the worst case situation!?

Look at the positive side... it might take some of the techs away for a short time if you are lucky enough to be part of a team (which I'm not), equally it could reduce the number of users giving you aggro at the same time! Although, knowing my luck, the ones who give me most aggro wouldn't be off sick... just the nice ones!

There's a lot of IT pro's out of work at the moment... At one point earlier in the year 10,000 were losing their jobs each week.

It has quite roundly been seen as a 'giant mistake', as IT is one of the few areas which will actually help the economy recover. So, sacking IT staff is like getting rid of one of the only areas of a business which can help it become more efficient. But try telling that to the management in some companies. All they see is a department that eats money and doesn't bring in sales.
JJonas Posted July 21, 2009 Author Posted July 21, 2009 Just to let you know I had to pick up a supply of Tamiflu for our four year old daughter last night. She has had a persistent temperature of over 39 degrees and is very lethargic. At the moment our 11 month old appears fine.

Thought I'd let you know how it went here my daughter was diagnosed a while back, she had a very high temperature and all the symptoms, but two days on the temp had dropped considerably and she had a sore throat and headache, delighting in the fact she could oink at everyone and worried in case she couldn't get to cub camp that weekend. My other half's teenage daughter caught it and was in bed for two days then started to feel better and again by the next weekend was doing fine. My son and two step children didn't catch it and neither did I or their Mum - fingers crossed so far. So hopefully your little one will be fine.

I'm not overly joyous about having a vaccine that's been fast-tracked through with minimal testing, considering how mild the virus currently appears to be.

All flu virus vaccines are 'fast tracked' ie. they're made in about 6 months. A vaccine is a vaccine, there is very little that can vary between them. It is an inactive version of the virus, that is all.
mossj Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 (edited) Out of the people that have experianced it 1st hand how bad is it? Compared to normal flu/illness. Reason I ask is I've had a temperature/sore throat/head ache/cough/tiredness for 2 days now. I managed to drag myself into work day 1, and had today off (although well enough to buy some food to eat). Now starting to feel a little better, so thinking of going back to work tommorow if the temperature is gone (treating the other symptons with a caffine/asprin/soother combo). However if it is swine flu, i'd rather not as my boss has a small child and would proberly be rather peeved if he caught it and then gave it to her. Also how hot is a high temperature (as if it's a hot summers day?), don't have a themometer nor a clue of what temp I'm supposed to be... Edited October 20, 2009 by mossj
ButterflyMoon Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Am just recovering from Swine Flu and was bed bound for nearly 5 days. Never felt so bad in my life. High temps and shivering at the same time. Headache like nothing I have ever had and earache too also sore bones in the face and what felt like toothache. Even now am on the mend still have sore joints and this morning almost a week later up with a raging throat!!!!! Our school has been hit hard with it and on average each day they say were 12 staff off since two weeks ago. My advice is if you feel bad stay off you only spread it round by going into work.
CAM Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 OK, I have a suspected case of this after ringing the hotline. 10 days off work, thats 3 weeks according to personnel as Half-Term was last week (I really don't get that policy). Personally it sounds like an NHS knee-jerk reaction but anything to look ou for on return to work? Also going to try get some work done from home when symptoms clear up a bit more, should be fun watching compatability differences between Calc and Excel 2003.

Got a banging headache myself - hope thats not a sign of things to come - as that was the first symptom they had...

"What's up with you, you big ladyboy?" "Pig flu." "WTF are you doing in FFS? Sod off!" "I was bored at home" Hmm. Thanks for that. I'm classed as "compromised immunity" due to my condition, and my missus is due to drop sprog imminently.
