First day back, what has, or is, going to break?

My checklist for this:

netsh winhttp show proxy

The bypass list is critical!

No web access, with 503 errors? Make sure that the current email cert is bound to the Default and site in IIS. The Microsoft Exchange default cert can be bound to the Exchange Back End.

just a note on this sometimes exchange runs as the system user but when you do netsh winhttp show proxy, it runs as Administrator not System and shows no proxy. I had this and the cert was just erroring with can't check revocation. There was a special command I could run to open CMD as System then netsh winhttp show proxy showed an ancient proxy we used to use, no idea how it got there.

And what's broken for me is the main hall projector bulb, I need to order a new one then assemble the huge tower to replace it like 10 - 15m high. And they are whining they have assemblies all week this week. Not much I can do until I get the bulb.

Lots of things going a miss today.. wonder if it's anything to do with the Azure / ISP issues yesterday

Bromcom broken yesterday, but seems fine today.

Microsoft teams appears to have a display error when you add distro lists to class teams. It only shows 1 student even though they are all added. Causing lots of It tickets!! arghh...

We had a company brought in to do a major network change over summer. I wasn't consulted and just ran with it (logic of sit back and if/when it goes wrong it isn't my fault). Issues so far today (first day with kids in):

Printers not working

SIMS not communicating

InVentry not updating from SIMS

CPOMS not updating from SIMS

Medical Tracker not updating from SIMS

PDF viewer set incorrectly in the app defaults xml

Machines storage filling up in 20 mins

Azure Connect tool not working

Missing user files

Failing backups

The list goes on.... Anyone got any eduhobnobs going about?

I presume you're the NM?

How can you allow a major network change to happen without getting involved in what's going on?

I am the NM, however when they decided to do this I was off on sick so all of the meetings took place without me. Also the old BM failed at their job and tried to pin it all on me and I was being Investigated for failing my job role and putting the school at risk (since sent evidence to prove the opposite and also had my union in) so I wasn't in a position where the head really wanted anything to do with me. Now it is a case of me proving "look how much better it was when I did the work, should have just let me do it with the resources I had been requesting for over 3 years". There has been a lot of politics and stuff get in the way.

I told you the only way upwards was to leave in your other thread. The above start to the term confirms this.

I appreciate that, and I am taking steps. For example @witch has been amazing helping me get my CV sorted out and I cannot appreciate the help more! However when it comes to leaving, I need another job to pay my bills first. I still have a mortgage etc. I wish it was easy as just leave I would, but unfortunately life doesn't work that way, and around where I am jobs seem to be few and far between/never get responses. Even considered leaving the IT field completely which I never wanted to do.

Apologies, my reply looks somewhat flippant I didn't mean it to be.

We reopen to the kids tomorrow and it’s going to be an absolute disaster.

We’re a special school for autistic kids and are having to move our year 9 and above kids to an academy near-by for the next 2 years whilst our main building is demolished and rebuilt due to RAAC concrete.

The IT staff from the trust and school have been amazing, however, their broadband provider have made getting the necessary infrastructure (we’re still on prem) in place incredibly difficult.

September is usually difficult due to change, but this is gonna be so much worse.

Starlink is the answer!

Inventry.

It looks like the Reg Group field in SIMS has been renamed to Tutor Group (probably by ESS in their latest update ) and is now breaking our exports to Inventry as their importer expects Reg Group for the field.

Interesting! Noticed edulink has no tutor groups in one school but the other seems fine. Been looking into this on and off today but everything looked fine!

Odd.

There is an update to this. Scomis have confirmed that ESS have changed the field and refuse to revert the change and Inventry has turned around and said they can't (or won't?) change the field either, so we've reached a stalemate.

Sounds like inventry have broken their contract then. Maybe hold the next payment which should focus their attention.

To be fair, it was SIMS that made the unannounced change. I'm not sure Inventry are responsible for that, when they're also supporting other systems that could also break because one developer made a major update and didn't inform everyone else...

- - - Updated - - -

It's not like it was a good product to start with and it sounds like the Trust are moving away from Inventry to Entrysign.

Frying pan and fire situation
