IT Recycling Companies

Hello, does anyone recommend an IT recycling company. we currently use Stone but they are now charging £750 for a van load of stuff...although I kinda thought the recycling cost was added at purchase and WEEE dictates the supplier must recycle for free if buying like for like equipment.....meh.

 

So does anyone use a company that recycles, reliably turns up and provides data destruction certification? I am in Wiltshire BTW.

very reliable, collect almost anything for free and are fully certified. They upload all your certificates to a portal after the work is complete which is super helpful when you have multiple schools or using them over multiple years

Used GreenIT the last two occasions, no charge. Though not sure if stuff like IWB's would incur a cost.

I have used Green IT disposal (https://www.greenitdisposal.co.uk/) quite a few times before and their service has always been great. They only charge for the collection if you have under a certain number of qualifying items, so I would double check with them first.

 

They don't take interactive screens though.

Have used them for a number of years now - although I think they now charge a small fee for the full audit report, £50 if i remember correctly regardless of how many items they collect.

+1 for Enviroelectronics. They provided us with a bin that we fill up and call them when it's full. They arrange collection and provide a replacement empty bin. We receive the serials and WEEE certificate, so I can't complain about anything!

We've been using https://enviroelectronics.co.uk EnviroElectronics for years now and they provide you with a cage or large dumpster type bin (as many as you would regularly use) all for free and pick it up for free when they're full! Everything from toners, cables to Desktops, Laptops, Printers, IWA, monitors etc.

+1 for enviroelectronics. We get loads of calls about recycling, eventually called one of them back, discussed what we had and then was told it would cost X. Ended the call at that and phoned up good old enviro

Just a point on the almost free part, I offered them 6 large wheelie bins full of old & broken IT kit including 60-odd Core2Duo Desktops & they wouldn't take it for free as they said that they'd need at least 60 '10-years-old-or-less' working desktops or laptops to break even.

 

We use everything to death so I ended up telling them that they weren't a viable solution in that case, as our Trust is reluctant to pay for IT waste removal.

 

EDIT: Oh and if anyone is wondering why our Trust don't necessarily want to pay, it's because they've been spoiled over the years with companies who could remove their IT waste for free.

I know what you mean. Ages ago one place and boss was surprised when a company started charging us for getting rid of CRT monitors ... YES, you read that right ... CRT monitors.

 

I know what you mean that they've been spoilt on how things actually work. I'd suggest that academies get with the real-world then that nobody does anything for free. If they assume that's the case they're delusional.

Recover IT are based in the NW and take away anything IT related for free

I would recommend https://ta.education/recycle/ - not only is the collection and recycle service free but you will also be able to redeem any residual value as credit towards school training or STEM shop products 👍

We use currently Enviro Electronics. Their collections can be hit and miss. We recently agreed a sale too them of some high end equipment that we were removing. They eventually collected. Months later they still haven't paid and do not respond to emails regarding the issue. Make of that what you will.

In their contract they state that they produce asset lists & certificates of destruction for storage drives - never had any of these. Luckily I keep my own asset list for items disposed of!

They have a portal that you should be able to log into to view the list of items/SN's after a collection, ours go back years. Maybe drop them an email to get an account set up if you don't have one.
