The perfect cup of tea is actually coffee ;)

I don't drink tea myself, but if I was making one for someone else, I'd aim for 3. My brother, however, doesn't take milk in tea!

I'm not one for telling others that their preferred cuppa is WRONG!! but yeah, don't make me a 6 or I will be very disappointed in you as a person. I might even.. gasp! ... not drink it.

The numbers are sometimes a bit different if you use non-dairy alternatives to milk. My experience, tea with (good quality) oat milk is darker generally, so if I use that it'd be 4-5. For soy its 3-4.

No milk, no sugar and decaf. But I rarely drink tea , like I've had prob 10 cups this year max. Haven't had coffee for a much longer time, probably a good few years. Edited by Davit2005

For a long time I drank tea (this was obviously my gateway drug as a youngster) and I guess I'd take it somewhere about 3.5....

Strange thing is I like it brewed strong but then with a lot of milk (sounds odd even as I'm saying it), oh and at least 3 sugars, as nobody asked.... rude!

Anyway, then I seem to remember getting addicted to coffee for a long time, then had no preference for a while, then made the switch back to tea.

More recently I switched back to coffee and have found a similar experience as with the tea, as I like it both milky AND strong... full cup of milk microwaved and a massive heaped spoonful of Nescafe Azera 'americano intense'... oh and I'm now down to 1 sweetener! So I guess there's a Latte feeling to it, but the thing is I have at least 15+ cups a day so without the milk it plays havoc with my insides.... It's actually all I drink on a daily basis (apart from maybe a lager or a JD and coke once in a blue moon)...

Also I have actually really gone off tea!

Tea, earl grey, hot, number 5...

It amuses me that technology as sophisticated as a starship food replicator would have 'cold' as a default setting for serving a cup of tea.

Personally - somewhere between 2 and 3

basically just enough to change the colour is fine - a little bit more is OK but those higher numbers are just hot milk!

coffee must be black as the Gods intended - milk in coffee is the mark of [enter generalised insult here]

Oh - and should be hot

will drink more gentle tea black quite happily but your general tea is a bit too acidic without a drop of milk!

I don't take milk in anything! Black Americano please, and lots of it.

An Americano is black, so a black Americano is tautology.

I'm not getting into the debate of whether an Americano with milk is really a flat white, a latte or its own thing!!
