Hi, just wondering what cloud backup services people are using for server cloud data backup.

I'm using an Azure File Share to store all of our cloud backups at the moment. It's just a simple SMB share. Not the best in terms ransomware protection for example but we also have cold backups.

We're using Barracuda Essentials. Not cheap but very capable. Does Exchange, Sharepoint, Onedrive and Groups (i.e. Teams) backups as well as basic email security.

Veeam 11 has some nice new features that make block ransomware from changing the backups. I think it only works with Amazon cloud AWS at the moment, but very cool.

 

For this reason we will be looking into it.

I believe it also works with Backblaze, or it did when I was experimenting with it. Although I think Backblaze uses AWS as a backend.

I am using B2 with the object lock feature and Veeam B&R v10. Total monthly cost is approx. $60 (£43) for 13.5 TB. The encrypted data is stored in their Amsterdam data centre.

I am looking forward to trying the hardened repository feature in v11 though since only our B2 backups are immutable at the moment.

as in your onsite servers are backed up to azure, or you are backing up the data in your cloud services to azure?

Onsite data is backed up to an Azure File Share. It's basically just a blob container, but accessible via SMB.

Although I think Backblaze uses AWS as a backend.

 

Backblaze have their own intrastructure, they provide an Amazon S3 compatible interface, so anything written to write data back to Amazon's S3 should also (in theory) be able to use Backblaze. Our setup is pretty much the same as Arthur's above - same version of Veeam, same location, size and cost of data, same immutable-for-30-days protection feature. I /thought/ we were using the UK datacentre, but it turns out I'd missed selecting the location when creating the Backblaze account.

Hi, can you please let me know how the backup from CT works and if VEEAM backup copy could be pushed to their data centre as well? Are you happy with heir service and system? I've been talking to hem on and of in the last few weeks, but I haven't made the decision to start using cloud backup yet.

I presume that's for me?

 

We did quite a long free trial with them, they were very helpful making sure everything worked well, gave us tips on upload speed and only started billing once we were happy we had what we needed (ie not paying for more than we needed!).

 

Their Online backup is just seen as another location by Veeam, it was pretty simple to configure, but their tech support is good and helpful.

 

I'd say the experience all round has been pretty exemplary compared to many other projects/implementations we've done!

I made contact with Max at CT - very helpful chap and, as a consequence, I have a 30-day trial configured and our VEAAM is currently performing its first cloud backup copy job. I'll see how it has progressed by tomorrow morning as I have internet throttling enabled during the day.

 

CT appear to tick all the boxes so they look very promising for now.

We use Veam backup for disk to disk and then disk to cloud using PeaSoup!
