[bromcom] SMTP for Office 365 in Bromcom - can't get test email to send

Can anyone with Bromcom and Office 365 care to share the secret to getting the email settings to work?

 

It needs:

 

Server Username / Server Password

Server Port

Server Domain

Server Name

No, I think we are going to pay for the bromcom smtp server as I was just using this one as a test.

 

Gmail and Office 365 have too many restrictions to use it globally such as a 30 email at once limit.

Bromcom give you a 50,000 limit of emails per month. Any email notifications used to internal staff such as behaviour alerts will use this limit too.

 

I checked our limit yesterday and we have about 8,000 emails left this month.

 

We tried to get Gmail along with lookingbat SendGrid and BlueSocket. It worked out cheaper to pay Bromcom.

The limit is negotiable I think. On the FREE tier of Bromcom's SMTP, you can send max 3000 emails per month.

BC transmits each email individually when doing bulk mailouts - we've been using O365 SMTP for a few years and never had a problem, sometimes sending to over 6000 users in one sweep...

Nothing to do with Bromcom but I entered the world of SMTP last week for another product.

 

Made great use of CheckTLS.com for checking my server settings and what I was entering; turned out the list of IP addresses I was given to whitelist on our SMTP relay included every IP address they use except their mail server that sends SMTP emails!

Microsoft is turning off support for the Basic authentication protocols connecting to external services that use this method to send out Emails. This may mean that current SMTP settings (Config > Setup > System Settings) stop sending out Emails if they are using Basic authentication.

 

When will Microsoft turn off support Office 365 Basic Authentication?

Official Basic authentication support ended at the end of December 2022 and Basic authentication may be turned off before the end of March 2023.

 

What alternatives are available to Office 365 SMTP for sending Emails?

If you have issues with your SMTP settings, you may wish to use Bromcom’s own SMTP service or change your current SMTP settings (Config > Setup > System Settings). Each school gets 3000 free Emails a month using this service and more monthly messages can be purchased for an annual fee.

Does your firewall allow outbound connections to this, hence why it maybe not working if the server is local.

Microsoft are turning off basic authentication generally, but they’re keeping basic authentication (SMTP AUTH) enabled for SMTP: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/clients-and-mobile-in-exchange-online/deprecation-of-basic-authentication-exchange-online#pop-imap-and-smtp-auth

 

You can turn SMTP off for all mailboxes except SMTP service accounts and combine this with conditional access to secure SMTP AUTH.

Or, use a 3rd party or their own service £££.
