Toshiba dynabook PORTEGE A30-E-1JC that were delivered after we ordered our allocation, and HP 250 G7 (109A1ES#ABU) provided by the LEA (VDP Scheme). - Both came provided with the 4-page DfE "Getting started with your Microsoft Windows device" guide - Unclear of end-user support for the DfE supplied ones (Y10) (or even support for us, if or when required!) - The VDP Scheme states that, LE has transferred ownership of the Laptop Device(s) to the School. the School shall be solely responsible for the future maintenance and any subsequent repair of the Laptop Device(s) which shall include the installation of any necessary software or hardware required for the proposed use. I've only just started to open, read instructions etc., but to honest I just want to install Office (2019?) and get them out (and gone!) but presumably I will need to attempt to ascertain the Admin credentials, which should be OK (I hope?) to obtain for the Toshiba's as I'm the Technical Contact - but in relation to the LEA supplied ones, who knows??? (having saying that, are they assuming students will be using Office365?? - As we are not setup for students, as yet. And if using, and keeping indefinitely I don't like idea of installing Office 2019 with our MAK key either!) Has anyone attempted to install additional required software on the supplied build, and confirmed that InTune doesn't remove / restrict access to it? I also need to clarify / confirm how long students keep them for as no idea, and if the 2 schemes differ? Thanks, Update: I noticed that the localuser account password can be changed! This is also what I want to know along with how/whom. We're set to receive ours next week so any heads up would be nice. We're a Google school and don't have Office 365 however I've setup a tenant recently and linked M$ licences so I can give them a login, if I do this do I even need to bother changing anything? What'd you all reckon? Tempted just to say keep using Google and ignore the Office suite too. Anyone else Google only with these devices in play already? How are you doing it? :-)
Andycat Posted June 19, 2020 Posted June 19, 2020 Our routers and laptops arrived, but no sleeves yet. Asset tagged, and just going to give them out. O365 school and SLT happy to use DfE filters rather than ours and wait to reimage after waiting for passwords etc.

Mind you, the students can't kick up the fuss that staff would at having to use something that wasn't Office.

W10Pro EDU, Celeron N4000/1.10GHz, 4GB RAM. Edge + Chrome and Startup "School essentials" links to Word etc online. Tried a search for boobies (didn't want to go TOO rude) and it seemed to block most stuff. Seems OK for what we need in KS1/2 so far. Bit surprised C: is browsable, though.

Pretty sure I've done all the GSuite stuff, bar waiting the 4 to 8 hours the Cisco version of the docs say - but nowt seems to be installing. That means: • the technical contact at a local authority (LA) or multi-academy trust needs to request these and share them with schools • the technical contact at a single-academy trust can request this information directly Please see the ‘Request your local admin passwords and BIOS program’ section below to find out how to do this. Mine arrived this morning I was shocked as we had only ordered them on Friday however, when I the technical contact followed the advice @Dave_O quoted above I was told that the technical contact could not request these it had to be the key contact. Gotta love clear consistent guidance

You have to install the Cisco stuff via your own GSuite. Did cheekily get our "set up" partner to take a look and they managed to push the app through, but not the extension. Apparently the address I quoted should be reachable through your firewall for everything to work, but I get that wherever I connect from.

Yesterday, someone arrived in Reception and said they were dropping off a laptop, and gave the Receptionist a brand new laptop with our school name and two initials written on it. Could that laptop have been one of the ones from County for a LAC/child with social worker? The initials don't match any of the "obvious" students, so we're a bit confused!

One of our LA's (our catchment covers 2) at least sent a list of the students they are providing a device for and giving a rough delivery estimate (2 weeks away!) Considering we've known for a while the laptops were due, it seems our staff still trying to work out who needs them as they last checked a few months ago and some appear to have acquired one in the meantime, or others now sharing and didn't say before. Had to put my foot down when they asked if we could give any to Y9's... Nope either we use them for Y10's, or we pass them to the other 3 schools in the trust that might need extra as the allocation was split 4 ways for fareness

Koldov Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 So with literally zero notice of any of this applying to me or any child at my school, I suddenly get an email from the Head at nearly 4 p.m. yesterday.... Basically it says they have received a 'device' (last week I have now been told) also there was a LA meeting at 09:30 a.m. to discuss, and blah blah blah... but could you come in tomorrow and 'set it up' the child needs it ASAP... The LA have decided to use a central GSuite for LA 'owned' devices.... The child will be going to a different school in September... It is apparently the child's device for them to keep...
