Just watching the news.

 

Who in their right mind goes shopping on Oxford Street at Christmas... let alone during a pandemic?

Have just heard that a guy who BD#2 had arranged to go on a date with that got postponed as he was having to self-isolate, has passed away from Covid. She's understandably distraught. He was in his 30s.

It is now thought the new variant spreads 50% to 70% faster than other forms of the virus.

Early analysis of how and where it is spreading have also given "hints that it has a higher propensity to infect children", according to Prof Neil Ferguson from the MRC Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis, who also sits on Nervtag.

He stressed the link was still being investigated and was not yet proven.

"If it were true, then this might explain a significant proportion, maybe even the majority, of the transmission increase seen," he added.

On a happier note. Son and girlfriend are fully recovered and out of quarantine.

 

The worst part, he said, was the 4 days when his spine was so painful it felt like it was going to burst out of his back.

Having woken up on Saturday morning to whispers of a travel ban being imposed on London, I quickly packed myself up ready to hit the road that evening and head for home. Yes, I know that isn’t the right response, but for my own mental wellbeing, I needed to be home.

 

On the plus side, I’ve done it in a much more responsible way. I was in the car alone, I stopped nowhere and I have taken the decision to isolate here with my parents for the next few days as a precaution. I have told people I am not available until after Christmas Day to see me for this reason.

Not that it will help much, if I were still at my old place I would have received a similar communiqué by now.

I'm assuming there has been no justification for each role based on need to be on site and risk assessments on each individual? It comes across as pure class (not the one with kids in it!) snobbery. I'm no historian, but it feels a bit like WW1 ranks. Difference is that I doubt any support staff will be getting medals. I always wonder if TAs come in the category of support staff - if not, why not, why are they different from office, site, finance, IT and all other support staff?

Based on my own experience, those required in will be Network Support, Site Support (some only) and Reception (one member of staff, and they will not be required all the time)

I don't know if you know, but was that a "them" decision more than a Gov one? We had the opposite email just before Xmas hols, everyone must be in, even if teaching students remotely.

 

Just wondering if it's changed in the latest guidance *fingers crossed* :p

Are they in school - in which case who herds the cats??

Sadly #Antarctica is no longer free of COVID-19! The Chilean army today reported 36 personnel at O’Higgins Base have tested positive (26 military and 10 civilians); the station has been undergoing the annual exchange of personnel over the last few weeks; pic @Base_OHiggins

Year 13 are in(we're a Sixth form) for mock exams. Originally teachers were invigilating, however the government announcement of the delayed start made SLT decide to get support staff to invigilate instead with teachers kept at home.

After spending most of yesterday in tears BD2 went to get some Xmas food today, only to find that she was stuck behind a guy who was refusing to mask up to get into Sainsburys* as "It's all a conspiracy by the government". Lets just say she was more polite than I would've been!

 

*I'm wondering if this is the same guy who was refused entry to a local bar on the same grounds and then launched a review bombing campaign against them...
