Always - I get asked how i can type so quickly! Touch typing on mobile phone is different matter lol

I used to be really good when working on the service desk, I'm still pretty good but no where at the standard I used to be, all self taught.

 

Also find it depends on the keyboard I am using too.

It takes a little while to get used to a keyboard, and I do usually have to look at my keyboard to find my starting letter(s), but from there I can usually type without looking down.

I'm getting that way with my phone too, but not quite there yet..

Like the others, no formal training, just over a decade of computer experience.

I always find myself amazed when I watch people who can type away with their eyes on the screen.

I was told back in the day not to learn because, as a female test engineer, if the other test engineers ( all men at that point) knew I could do it, I would be continually asked to type this or that. So I didn't

But much later, when I had had my children, I did do a touch typing course and can now touchtype pretty well. I do love to type whilst talking to mrwITch about something else - he thinks it is amazing that I can do that.

My children can all type as fast as me though, using only two or three fingers!

 

More to the point though - can you type without looking at the screen?

I love doing that when staff come to my desk and I'm mid-flow I just finish the bit I am on and they look shocked / horrified that I can do it.

Absolutely its a great thing to do, I tend to look at my phone screen as that I suffer major sausage fingers on it but PC with a standard keyboard I know well I am all good

Yeah, again no training but never felt the need, and I do it reasonably properly. Particularly quick on numpads thanks to a past in data entry; back in the day I used to do 140wpm at 100% accuracy. These days it's probably closer to 90 and "accuracy? What's that?"

Give me a touchscreen phone though and autocorrect just gives up, can't do it!

Can barely type with more than few fingers, keep glancing at the keyboards ever so often, but not all the time.

 

Can't type and talk to people at the same time. I just loose focus. Can't understand how people can type and have meaningful conversation at the same time.

Don't look at the keyboard, use all 10 fingers/tentacles to type.

 

Training: 12 Years of World of Warcraft = lots of typing.

I can type around 70 wpm and that's using my two index fingers and left thumb. Accuracy is quite good and I don't have to look at the keyboard very often. I am trying to touchtype to try and get faster though.
